Quaife gear lever problems
Dave Bailey - 28/10/12 at 12:56 PM

Hi all,
Doing a few jobs on the car and to improve the gear change I thought a nice quaife lever on eBay would do the trick. Nothing is ever straight forward and the lever does not fit. I have a Westfield type 9 gear lever extension plate but I expected the quaife one to fit straight in. Anyone had similar issues fitting a rose jointed lever.

Hi.
Quite a few years ago I fitted a Quaif quick shift to a type 9 i had in a MK2 Escort. I had all sort of grief getting it to work and ended up having to pack it up with washers to get a satisfactory result.

Regards
Jon

You can see from the picture that the collar is too big to go through the hole in the extension plate.....

Have a look at David Jenkins website, it shows how to make a standard Sierra gearlever into a quickshift for pennies. Sorry can't help with the Quaife item but have used a home made item

And the reason is that it is designed to fit the box, not the extension plate. I have one on my BGH type 9 which works a treat but I don't have an extension.

Ok thanks... I will have to make a few measurements and get it machined I guess....
