How to - Duratec on engine stand?

Dear Collective

I have my engine stand, and my nice fresh duratec from the scrappers. It's all home.

I now want to start stripping all the gubbins off the engine to get it down to what I need, and I have what may seem like a naive question about mounting the engine on the stand.

My approach is to just take the clutch off and bolt through the bellhousing mounting holes to the engine stand. This will give me great access and let me strip the front and sides out nicely. Is this what others have done? Will it stress the engine - I assume not.

Has anyone bolted onto the engine mounts on the side?

I notice from a lot of installations that no-one seems to use the front mount

I have one in my garage bolted to the side - I need to get to the end to make a gearbox adaptor plate. Can upload you a picture if you want

It seems like it's a case of "bolt on where you can" and there shouldn't be any damage.

I just didn't want to end up distorting the block because i'd hung it's entire weight off somewhere stupid.

Mounted mine sidways it allowed me to get to everything including the clutch which is a problematic install heres a pic

I also mounted it on the exhaust side - better access for flywheel removal/fitting.

I'm looking forward to getting the exhaust off tonight and cutting into it - I'm intrigued to see what ford did in the collector - the pipes looked well bent to the collector before being mashed in a weird way. I suppose that's what is needed for a factory welding process.
