Airbox options - Honda CBR1000RR 999cc 2008
Tris - 14/2/12 at 11:24 PM

Evening all,

Currently in the process of fitting a Honda CBR1000RR 999cc 2008 engine into my Fury. Has anyone fitted such an engine into a front engined car before and if so, what/how did you do the air box ?.

Cheers
Tris

Pretty sure this is pretty standard install by Andy Bates, give him a call im sure he will be willing to give you some advice, he has been nothing but helpful for me in the past.

Hello Benzo - yes indeed regards andy, currently waiting on a call back from him on this very subject.

I understand Andy has only done one, which effectively turns the air box round and uses a aluminium fabrication grafted on to the lower half of the airbox to produce a 100mm spigot. The later 2008 engine is unfortunately very different to the earlier fire blades. Anyway, was just wondering what other people have done.

Austen - yes mate, thanks will do.

Cheers
Tris

Interested to read about the topid, im considering the 1000RR for next year myself.. andy had actually mentioned the '08 engine to me in particular and by saying that i presumed he had installed a few.

Tris - 14/2/12 at 11:52 PM

Think most have gone straight into RGB class R cars, which andy obviously has done a fair few off. The air box options for these installs are totally different from the under bonnet option for Fury's and a like.

Engine appears to be a stormer but not cheap. 2009 engines can be got easier/cheaper than 2008's (as RGB has an engine age limit).

Is class R the Sabre class?

PAUL FISHER - 15/2/12 at 12:03 AM

This is one of Andys airboxes on a RR.

In a Fury

Benzo - 15/2/12 at 12:06 AM

Tim hoverd's RGB car has a 2008 Blade - click here

Yes - Class R is all mid engined car's, so Sabre's, Spires, and Tim Hovards J15. The air box tim is working on is also therefore not applicable as its mid engined.

Thanks Paul for the pictures but unfortunately that air box will now longer work with the later CBR1000R engines due to the second set of injectors mounted within the air box itself.

Suppose as time goes on i suppose this problem is going to become more of an issue as the air boxes on the current range of bikes gets more and more complex.

I have seen the engine installed in numerous front engined configurations. The only way of creating a neat slimline installation is to have a bespoke aluminium air box fabricated, mounting both the filter and the additional injectors along with the fuel rail.

Sorry for thread resurrection, but I am the guy that now owns this car.

Please do not use this as an example of the excellent AB performance fireblade airboxes, as i have just established that it is the rather poorly put together bastard love child of an AB performance 919 blade box and a block of swiss cheese. There are more holes in it than my kitchen collender! It was not constructed by Andy Bates... someone cut and shut something and reused the AB sticker.

I just found this thread after being in touch with Andy for a replacement and subsequently wanting to research my options at all price points. Andy is a top guy who really knows his stuff and I have no doubt that his product is top notch, but the price reflects the quality.

So, down to the reason i was searching... Has anyone modified the standard 2004-2007 CBR1000RR airbox for use on a BEC?

Any pictures?

Thanks

Tim

tim hoverd has done just that

So he has... and a number of times too. Thanks Austen
