Duratec Engine bay nearing Completion
big-vee-twin - 28/9/11 at 05:44 PM

Having recently removed the engine to insert a bolt into the bell housing to stop the lay shaft on the type 9 moving forwards, see previous posting.

I have finally got the engine back in the cooling pipes finished and the throttle bodies trial fitted - All going together nicely.

Looking very tidy! What power are you hope to achieve with the ST150 variant of the engine?

big-vee-twin - 28/9/11 at 08:03 PM

I'm hoping for around 180BHP, the engine in standard format is 150 BHP

Tiger Super Six - 28/9/11 at 08:35 PM

Nice, well done.

Mine came in at 170bhp with 140bhp at the wheels, so that could achievable. Mine is straight out the donor and running on carbs.

Poorscousertommy - 28/9/11 at 08:39 PM

Guys, where did you pick up your ST engines? An good sources that I may not have thought of?

Cheers

Found mine on ebay a 2007 motor with 22k on it

pjay - 28/9/11 at 09:09 PM

180 should be achievable with injection, my Mondeo Duratec (145 as standard) came in at 192:

Great, just what I was hoping for, got some nice curves there

What ECU are you using?

pjay - 28/9/11 at 09:41 PM

Both the power and torque curves came out looking nice.

Running on Microsquirt with standard injectors (in the head) - someone was enquiring about injector location on another thread.

big-vee-twin - 28/9/11 at 09:46 PM

I was asking about microsquirt earlier today, was thinking it may do the job, trigger wheels sell a kit which includes all the injector, coil and crank sensor connectors for the Duratec.

You just use it the same as a mega squirt?

Was it a straightforward install?

Do you have a map from you roller session?

big-vee-twin - 28/9/11 at 09:48 PM

I've got ST170 injectors mounted in the head, there supposed to be good for about 197BHP so should do the jod pretty well

FASTdan - 29/9/11 at 06:56 AM

Looks great, very tidy

big-vee-twin - 29/9/11 at 07:04 AM

Wouldn't be in if you hadn't made up some engine mounts for me

Looking Good

Did you use that "standard" water manifold on the back of the engine. I am trying to work out the plumbing for mine, what pipes can be blocked off etc...

Cheers

I got that kit from the Trigger Wheels guys plus a Wideband Lambda controller. Have to say I hand the original loom from the engine/TBs so used the Ford/Suzuki connectors etc.

Yep, same as the latest version of MegaSquirt.

Very straightforward to install but I found mocking it up on the kitchen table with all the sensors was a good approach. This also allowed me to calibrate most of the sensors ahead of time. The Suzuki MAP sensor took a bit more faffing around to cal though.

I have two main maps, a very conservative one I produced myself using MicroSquirt calculated data and then refined using the VE analyser in MegaLogViewer. This used drive logs taken with Megatune (Wideband Lambda contoller wasn't cheap but really did it's stuff for this one). When run up on the rolling road it came out at 143 without any changes and if I'd had the time could have been a lot better with a bit of experimentation.

The 2nd map is from the rolling road session and was the result of 2.5 hours @ £90 per hour (but money well spent).

Yes standard water manifold on rear of cylinder head, but I am planning on a heater as I will fit screen post IVA

What is the limit of the standard injectors than came with 2.0 duratecs?

pjay - 29/10/11 at 06:56 AM

Assume you mean BHP - for the 0280156154 I understand around 220 is the max (that is without increasing the operating fuel pressure from 3 bar).
