Description
Took bumper down to Automark in Stokesley this morning for a mapping session and a couple of things have come up..
Firstly the compression was down at 146psi right across the board not good for a 65k ST engine! This may be down to misguided hope of a retarded
exhaust pulley giving me more power... some investigation required.
The resulting power was a disappointing 178bhp and 240nm... I say disappointing as it peaks at 4500rpm then tails off. The guru reckons I need to
investigate my cam timing, which I holy (bless you) agree on.
Secondly my home made cable adjuster at the TB's broke just as we started! Bummer, its been on there for thousands of miles and decided to give
up today!
So, there was a nice MK2 Escort in for an engine swap.. a nice new duratec with Jenveys.. I was eye balling the linkage and decided it may help on
mine... googled for a price and too much for a few pressed parts!
Linkage
I reckon I can make one of these in a couple of months but I'm wondering where I can get a spring like that one? And a piece of plastic rod like
that? I've got some little rose joints and even the cam bit off some TL1000 carbs so it can't be hard, can it??
Any help much appreciated
Ta,
Steve
people have a lot of issue with the vct and making it work and making the engine make even stock power, that my view of them for some reason people dont seem to have much luck with them
Now that worries me.Just how much will my 2.0 zetec with
bike carbs be making.....Not
as much as i thought,me thinks
Are you going to put the standard pulley back on?
Did it not make 169 with the carbs on mate?
Andy
The Jenvey throttle linkage is expensive but worth it in the end.
240Nm seems a lot and suggests the car has issues. For reference mine made 209BHP & 216Nm (Blacktop, CNC Head, Cams & Jenveys)

is that peak torque at 4500 or peak bhp?
240 NM (approx 177 ft lbs) is a nice figure, plenty of grunt! but surely you want that all the way through the mid range revs.

Steve I've got a few springs link that so maybe give me an approx length and I'll how close they are.

Yes mate, got 2 here, ones about 3" and the other is about 3 3/4", smaller one is about 10mm across and the longer one is about 12mm
across.
Any good? Looking at the original picture these maybe a bit strong, I'll have a shifty at work too, but you're welcome to try them.
Cheers

Cheers Rich. I'll give them a try, just need some ptfe rod to make a bush and bobs ur uncle
And, pictures say a thousand words eh?
I have the ST engine fitted and mapped. Compressions are pathetic at cranking speed. Very easy to turn over on the crank pulley nut by spanner.
Thought the engine was bust when I first had it on the stand as compressions seemed so little. Seems to be a feature of this engine.
Mapping before and after exhaust retard showed about ten extra horses at 6 degrees retard. Will try 8 degrees next time. Definately worth it. RR
operator said 170 at the wheels and it feels like it. Previous standard blacktop was about 150 at the wheels with jenveys.
There does seem to be a limit to what these engines will give for sensible money. Replacement cams and followers, getting rid of the VVT, flowed
heads all expensive. I feel it's an engine which is good as standard but a bit of a tuning dead end. Certainly seen better from a blacktop zetec
with a little head/port clean up and cams. I wish I had stayed with the blacktop.
Wonder if a blacktop head will go on a ST bottom end?
I made my own copy of the jenvey throttle arms.
What revs are you switching the cam? Mine advances at 3000. Can't see where it switches on your dyno graph. Not sure how to view your graph as I
thought power and torque figures crossed at 5252 rpm. Oh that's foot pounds and yours is newton metres.

Have some small nylon bushes or phoser bronze ones, amazing whats in the back of a photocopier! What shaft dia are you wanting to pass through? u2u
me you addy then mate.
