Can the type 9 gear box mount be mounted on a flat bar of does the middle rubber piece need to be free to vibrate?
I take it you've got one of these mounts: (sierra type)
you could think about using one of these instead: (as used on early cortina's, westfield, caterham and loads of others)

I have got the one off caterham and mounted it on a flat bar, I have quite a bit of engine vibration, Not sure if its the gearbox mount or the
landrover engine mounts
in that case I can' see that mounting it on a flat bar would make any difference as the bottom half of that type of mount is 1 bit of metal anyway... but they are quite rigid style of mount
when you say vibration, is that vibration through the chassis that you feel? or is the gearstick shaking around loads?
ideally, you want to have the gearbox mount on some sort of solid box to hold it still, and the rubber in the gearbox mount that you have will dampen
some vibration through the chassis giving a sort of compromise. here's what mine is like

think is, this will transmit vibration through the chassis.
on a flat bar, the bar isn't very stiff, allowing the gearbox it move up and down, and twist, meaning the gear lever will shake around instead.
eventually i guess it work harden and break

Have heard the transit engine mounts are softer rubber than the Landrover one's.
The Landrover ones have a rep for being hard.
I can vouch for the landrover mounts being hard. My car has loads of vibration on tickover. Once it is reved it is much less.
Another mod to do.
The gearbox is mounted on a solid bar so starting to think its not that
Gonna check the exhaust tonight to make sure its not catching
Also the vibration is less when rev'd so think its probs the landrover mounts

the mount was bolted to the gearbox then it was put in place and bolted to the flat bar by the 2 outer bolts

Mine is sitting on a chassis plate with a thin bit of rubber on top, one M12 I think through a hole in said plate into the gearbox.
