1.8 CVH Questions
mikeb - 7/12/10 at 11:58 AM

I have a 1.8 CVH as part of my donor pack, I was going to put it in to get through IVA then upgrade to zetec.
The plan is megajolt and bike carbs.

Current issues.
1. I haven't seen any 1.8 CVH inlet manifold plates for sale, there are plenty of 1.6's are they the same??
2. Thermostat, currently the water exits the head as part of the inlet manifold, I think this can be blanked off and a part fitted from a 1.6 that exits out of the back of the head. Requiring the removal of a core plug. What is the part that bolts on and what are the options as I believe this part then fouls the chassis requiring a chop that I don't want to make (inline thermo stat ??)

3. If anyone sees a westfield wide body CVH exhuast manifold for sale let me know
!

Any pictures of CVH installs welcomed.
Haynes Roadster btw.
Thanks

M

Surrey Dave has a 1.8CVH, with new manifolds on exhaust and inlet.

I have a 1.8 CVH but it's on the original manifolds so can't help with your questions.

First I had the standard manifold and carb then , i had an adaptor plate made that allowed me to fit a Weber 28/36 type carb.

Then I cut out my manifold plate, minus the water outlet so it was blanked off, then fitted a FWD thermostat housing to the back of the head ,all the fixing holes are the already.

The car now has Megajolt ignition with Zetec coilpack on the back of the engine.

My exhaust is the standard cast manifold but i mad my own 2 into one section that comes out through the body work, with quite long pipes aimed at giving good torque.

don't let the detractors sway you too much from this motor it's cheap, low maintenance and quite respectable performance with the bike carbs and Megajolt, i've had a 2.0 Zetec waiting in my to swap over for about 4 yrs ,it never seems worth the hassle.......

Hi Mike,
I,m using the 1.8cvh until a later date when i,ll change to a zetec on bike carbs & megajolt ...........

With regard the exhaust manifold, i,m using the manifold from an RS1600 turbo on my 1.8cvh, it needed a little work on the outlet ports but does give an easier exit point for attaching the exhaust down pipe than the original manifold. HTH.

cheers
andy

Hi Mike,

i've used the cvh as well. I used the original exhaust manifold and cut and shut the down pipe to fit my exhaust. It will do for now as I also intend to go the zetec route (eventually).

As for the thermostat, i did what your not wanting to do. I cut a bit out then reinforced it so no strength was lost. Then used a rs1600 housing. Seems to work for me and doesn't look to bad.

I also went the bike carb route and made my own manifold, not a master piece but as above - it works and will do until I up grade.

I've got a few photos on the link below, might be of some use.
