redeye - 19/11/10 at 11:25 AM

Hi guys

Can anyone tell me if theres a difference between a 2.0 duratec with a blacktop and one with a silvertop

I know its definatly a duratec and not a st170 zetec in disguise

thanks

Patrick

Nope, no difference other than ones an aluminium cover and the other is plastic.

Some of the plastic cover ones have COP whilst the others have a single coil on the back of the head. But internally they are the same.

Thanks for the quick reply david

It was actually your duratec install that inspired me to look into one

excuse my ignorance but what is "COP"

Is there any reason for plastic cover over aluminium then? was this in a different car ......Would I be right in thinking the fiesta st duratecs had the plastic cover?

many thanks

Patrick

COP = coil on plug, individual HT coils for each plug

The ST150 Duratec has plastic cover, coil pack not COP. Has the EGR valve blanked off and a standard flywheel not dual mass - so this is the ideal engine.

Where have you found a Duratec, I have been looking for a while and haven't seen any that look half decent!

Here's mine done 22,000 miles, from a place in Birmingham via ebay.

Don't upset me

Do you know the name of the place, was it a breakers and then you had it rebuilt or was it just luck coming across it?

Thanks,

Mark.

Found mine on Ebay too

Mark - Theres still a few on there that look like decent enough engines

theres one in edinburgh for £275 buy it now with £75 delivery charge......only draw back being fairly high mileage at 71k

big-vee-twin, could I be cheeky and ask how much yours cost you? 22,000 miles is a good find

That's the thing I am not sure of, I was guessing if they said it was 71,000 I might want to add a few more on as there's no way of actually telling.

Damn right, any mileage claim from a breakers you should think of doubling, at least.

An engine builder I talked to a few years back said Zetecs were good for over 200,000, he had taken them apart and could still see the honing in the bore.
I would suspect the Duratec is just as durable, if the oil pressure is good and the bearing look ok, fit it and have fun

Only thing to watch on duratecs is the big ends can get rattley after 150k depending on the driving stye of previous owners! That said a set of bearings is only £50 assuming no crank damage.

Other than that they are pretty much indestructable
