thermostat housing help

bit confused by this one...

got a new thermostat housing for my 328 engine. only difference with this one is its aluminium rather than the old plastic one.

but the top and bottom radiator hose goes into it, thermostat fits behind the big round bit, and the bottom hose connects to the smaller triangular side...

but, why is there only a seal on the bottom hose side? there's no gasket with it, nor was there one on the original one. the orange seal also sits about 3mm proud of the flange. surely it'll leak?

thinking its going to be a good idea for some instant gasket stuff round it?

Is there a seal that pushes on to the thermostat?

ah, hadn't thought of that tbh. will have to look thanks there must be a reason it didn't fall out the engine yet!
there is a ring round the old housing where it looks like something was touching it more than the face of the head was, so might be worth getting a new thermostat while the housing's off?

Definitely. Change all consumable items at this point. Thermostat, Oils, Filters, Plugs and gaskets where you can.

Youll kick yourself if you put it all back together and it leaks!

had to put it together today, and couldn't get a thermostat today all works ok though, but turns out my radiator has a pin hole leak too, so i'll be needing a new one soon lol
