on my 1300 xflow i have oil coming out of my dipstick hole not when its ticking over or reving hard at stand still but when i been out for a drive get
back and check oils everywhere.
any ideas?
i have fitted a small filter on the engine breather box thing but it was doing it before then.

Is your oil filler cap the vented type? If it is, is it blocked? Sounds like you could be building up cranckcase pressure. Try cable tying a baloon to
the oil filler tube and running at tickover, it should partially inflate but not burst.
In the past I have got rid of the problem by Redexing the bores overnight (un gums the rings), but watch out when you start up, the clouds of white
smoke are very spectacular and take a couple of miles to dissipate
i,ll buy some baloons tomorrow if it dont work at lease i can play with them!

How is the compression in the cylinders, you might want to do a compression test to see if maybee you might have a worn piston which is letting
pressure build up in the crank case.
Also how is your oil level, Ive seen a few cases where people added too much oil, and they thought that the engine was leaking everywhere.
If the breathers are OK looks like
Broken or stuck top ring(s) or the traddional Xflo worn bores.
Compression test is likely tell very little unless its really bad -- looking at the colour of plugs might tell you more.

two, No compression
three, not too bad.

Try the Redex thing, I have got cylinders from 40psi up to 150psi by using it overnight. If the cause is lacquered rings and not knackered rings- you are still in business

Have you tried the compession test wet and dry, it may only be a burned out/sticking valve.
Put about about 10cc of STP/20w50 1:1 mix in the bore and recheck the pressure. If it is still low, you have valve problems
As Mark said, make sure your head is not the problem - if it is you can have the head off , overhauled and back on in a few hours if your lucky.
PS: Don't be put off by a home rebuild of a xflow. Cut my teeth on these over 20yrs ago and they are a nice simple engine to learn on. Just make
sure you get a machine shop that knows what they are doing if a rebore/crank regrind is needed.
What about upping to a 1600/1700 xflow?
