Hi,
What sort of ground clearance should I be looking for to the bell housing?
I still have to change the sump over to a Scholar cut version.
Ground Clearance
(Sorry for grainy pic)
I have read that a good start is to have the W/Bs
level with the ground.
My engine sitting on standard MK rubber mounts sits
slightly forward. Is this normal?
Are there better mounts to use instead?
Any general comments?
Cheers in advance.
Steve
can you lower the gearbox the engine should be level, place the gearbox mount under the bracket which is welded to the chasis
yip I can do that.
The saddle is currently sitting on top
of the chassis mounting plates.
The MK exhaust is a worry with regards
moving the engine about too much as
its a real tight fit coming through the
chassis top rail and the diagonal.
There is actually a small dent in one of the
tubes that is obviously how MK "engineer"
a solution around the top rail.

Remember to keep your gearbox & diff flanges paralel ............. or shake your car to bits...
Around 90-100mm seems to be the accepted norm.
That looks like roughly the same amount of clearance i have under the sump at the moment. I dont htink you want any less than 3" if you can help it.
There is a solution for your problem!
How about a system that can lift your front end by 50-65mm at the flick of a switch?
I've fitted this to my Motaleira and now have a few sets for sale.
They are not cheap chinese imports but british made. u2u me for a price.
All you have to do is make sure that your shocks will extend by 33mm to allow for the ram. You will need shorter springs and a custom made hose set
made by Russ Bost.
shock ram motaleira
shock rams
ram and adapter
pump

Thanks for the feedback.
I am expecting the new sump to be up level-ish with the bell housing.
I just wondered if there was a better
set of rubber mounts to be had that would
A) perform better in operation
and
B) be slightly taller to lift the engine a bit.
Cheers

check your bonnet will clear if you start raising the engine.
but to me it looks the standard height most zetecs end up at.
you do need to level it out whatever you do either by raising the front or dropping the gearbox mount.
