The answer depends on engine torque and power. The power and torque the box will see due to grip and aero.
The revs the box will tollerate as a function of axle ratio, wheel diameter and engine rpm.

Can you provide some more details?

BMW 5 or 6 speed, jaguar manual, T56 if you can stretch to it out of a viper/mustang/camaro/transam,

Id have though any box will do 200mph with the right diff/final drive?

chris mason - 20/2/10 at 11:37 PM

it's not which gearbox will cope with 200mph, it should be which gearbox can cope the bhp/torque required to get a car to 200mph.

In which case depending on the cars aero etc, you may need a gearbox that can handle 600bhp or thereabouts.
You'll also need a clutch that can handle that too.

as chris and i said

Also diff ratio will need to be such that the transmission itself isn't over revving

mine is all good for 200mph, i'm geared for 221mph in 5th, with 6th as a spare, i'm running a 2.73 diff ratio, and 550+hp, and 600+ib/ft, then 200shot of nitous when needed.

Yep the Tremec T56 (orginally designed by Borg Warner) pictured below is a good choice but you might struggle to find a cheap one. So the Skyline, Supra, 200sx boxes will be more likely.

What engine are you using to get to 200mph?
