Compression ratio for Turbo ZX10??
CraigJ - 18/10/09 at 04:34 PM

Does any one know what an ideal compression ratio i need to aim for on a 88-89 ZX10? The standard CR is 11:1. I was thinking of going for 9.2:1? would this be any good? I plan to fit a thicker base gasket to do the job but not sure how thick to go???? Im not planning on going for huge power just 5-6 psi from a td04-13c turbo (any one have 1 laying around let me know, Must be very cheap as i will be rebuilding them, I need 2 )

Any help/advice would be great.

most engines you can get away with that much boost without messing with the compression. use a td04 off a subaru as a lot of people upgrade to a td05 so they go for peanuts. and they wont need a rebuild.

This is a completely daft idea.

I love it.
Twin ZX10s with turbos, you should easily see 200bhp from each engine in relatively low tune.
I know nothing of turbochargers, but reckon you should aim for 237bhp from each engine. (The power the engine in the Impreza turbo with a TD04 makes.)

474bhp total is a nice completely not round number.

Should be able to get 6-8psi on standard engine, its designed to run on 93ron so optimax and boost.

How about a volvo td04-13c turbo, ~8psi and cheap. Rescued attachment Turbo_part_No.JPG

The TD04-13c are from the volvo 460/740/940 and 960. The 13c is the one i need as it has been used lots before on the zx10 and i know it works. Will have to do a bit of scrap yard searching, should be able to find 2.

Im wanting to get as close to 200bhp per engine to give me 800bhp per ton.

That is NUTS!

You'll need rear tyres and balls of significant size to get that power down!

Got the balls just need the tyres lol.

Would you not be better off fitting modern zx10 engines? they make about 40bhp more at the wheel than the old ones. Less plumbing/weight etc.

Have you seen the price of old ZX10 engines.
I'm with him, obviously...

I suppose there is that aspect!

The two zx10's i have cost me a grand sum of £150, for both. I only need a loom, cdi and a set of carbs and both engines can be run as they are.

sounds like the ideal thing really.

I'm half thinking I should use a gsxr1100 lump big bore and turbo it too

could do all the above for about £800!
