Cleaning Webers?

Hi All

I've just bought these and need to work out the best way to clean them before rebuilding them.

Any thoughts?

I used petrol and a stiff toothbrush on mine...

If you have access to a compressor... how about soda blasting them?

ultrasonic cleaning is the best way, I am led to believe.

there is somone on eaby that offest ultrasonic carb cleaning,

I have found a petroleu msolvent e.g. petrol or paraffin, and carb cleaner will get most of the grot but not all. that usually needs to be scraped off.

those carbs look pretty clean to me... it is the internals that are important

I reckon all the brass screws may be the biggest problem. If they shear off it can get very tricky
There are lead plugs in various positions so they can be drilled out to access the small passageways, but hopefully that wont be needed. Blasting with abrasive is not a great idea as it can damage the alloy, but guess if you are very careful (still wouldn't try it myself).
But ultrasonic is the best way. I would check that all screws etc come out OK, then get them US cleaned. Then start the rebuild. Also worth checking you have got the right bits and bobs you need, some stuff (chokes etc) can be very expensive, in fact it is easy to spend £100 on jets etc alone. Be warned!

It's all the brass bits that look the worst! I'll probably try and soak these in some kind of releasing fluid and strip the bodies back bare then see what needs doing. I've only bought these as I have a long-term plan to go into historic racing (I'll be historic by the time I get there!) so a set or two of 40's won't go amiss!
