thermostat housing questions

hi, i need to find a place for my fan switch as i have no hole on my rad. please see photo below to ID which plug is for the fan switch

Hi - the simple answer is they're both temperature sensors not switches. One was for the dash gauge and the other for the ECU I believe on the car. Later vehicles only had the top sensor. You won't be able to drive a relay or the fan directly from them. You'd need a fan switch in the rad or one that plumbs into a hose.

you could make a simple electroonic circuit - a comparator to switch a fan - you would need to design in some hysteresis though.

easier non electronic option is to drill the radiator in front of a hose and use a screw in boss into which the switch fits.

I have one of these on my escort rad - dunno where it is from but it works.

if rad is brass, you can solder it in place, not so easy if aluminininininum.

Fan should really work on radiator core temperature not engine.

Top one is ecu temp sender and bottom one is gauge temp sensor.
