Missing engine number ..... I think
rallyingden - 29/7/09 at 08:17 PM

Sorry about the size of the pic

I was looking at a thread earlier today and it reminded me that I am getting to the stage wher I need to strip & check my engine (Pinto) I went to get the engine number off the block only to find that I think it has been erased !!
Can anyone verify what I think ?

How will this affect getting the car through IVA ?

Not a happy chappy

no idea where it should be but to avoid confusion, the casting incluse 6015 which if Ford's code for engine block, AA will be indicator of capacity.

if you have documents from donor, you can restamp it.

... but first attack the area above the cast number with wire bush - looks like a likely place for eng. no, - the number is stamped so may be obscured by the crud and rust.

The engine number will be the last 7 digits of the donor chassis number unless it has been changed

Bought kit as a part build with no donor info

The Saga continues.
I have confirmed with Burton Power that the engine number should be where I thought, and its not but now I dont know if it's OK for unleaded fuel.
There is no marking ajacent to no 4 spark plug as per the burton site info.

Sinking fast

It is sometimes suprisingly difficult to uncover readable numbers on Pinto's. I would use a wire brush on an electric drill (or possibly an Angry grinder - but you need to be careful not to eradicate everything) until you have shiny metal.

If no numbers are revealed then you need a number from a scrapped Pinto
