clutch cable alteration
cd.thomson - 27/7/09 at 11:58 AM

I have a snazzy new clutch cable for my car but then I changed the bellhousing so now I have to have the threaded section of the outcasing at its longest setting.

This means that firstly its non adjustable now when the clutch wears and secondly it is less secure as its not supported by the bellhousing.

Is it possible to get a longer outer cable or alteratively get an inch taken off the inner cable (the first being the best option)?

Cost is important, any ideas? £80, £50, £10?

haven't you got 3 MC holes on your pedal box?

not the cheapest option i know, but i prefer a hydraulic clutch. doesn't have to cost the earth either

Just add a split spacer to the cable outer. Or the adjuster from a big bike clutch lever.

Or one of these

cheapness isnt the issue, more the added complication. I've looked at a pull cylinder but that does add significant cost.

For some reason I cant get my head around the spacer, its not extending the threaded section so what difference would it make (i know im being stupid here, just cant visualise!)

ETA: infact isnt it just reducing the amount of usable thread by putting it inside the spacer? the nuts would still be up tight against the edge of the spacer so it still wouldnt be adjustable?

It effectively makes the outer longer, reducing the free length of the inner, which means you'll have to wind the nuts back on the adjuster to make it fit.

yes thats what I thought, but then when I come to adjust the clutch? another shorter spacer?

Spacer goes on pedal end ideally. Add an inch spacer there and you can use an inch less of the threaded adjuster.

Works either end though.
