Fuel system plan

Fueling gurus...any comments...will this work OK?
I'm going to be using 2 x 6 gallon tanks and I'm trying to minimise starvation.

Hi Alan

Shouldn't the high pressure return go back to the swirl pot?

When idling it might run dry else

Hope this helps

Adrian

Adrian,

Thanks for the input.

I don't know about the HP return....I guess that's why I'm asking...

I thought the high pressure return was farily warm and was better dumped back in the tank where there was more volume.....but, as I say, I don't know...your point is good one.

Hopefully someone can throw some light on it.

Cheers,

Alan

Hi

This is how SBD suggest on a VX Rescued attachment 20l_swirl_pot.gif

Adrian,

Yes, that's pretty similar to my arangement (except for the number of tanks).....so I guess that should work for me too.....

Cheers,

Alan

Glad that helped

The high press return will be warm but as long as the swirl pots return is at the very top it will be the warmest fuel that goes back to the tank,

As for twin tanks, are you planning on filling them up seperatly? If not you'd need a fairly large pipe joining them together or it will take an age at the petrol stations

Yes, the plan is for a fairly large pipe between them about 3/4 way up and a smaller pipe between them near the bottom.

Alan, why the two tanks? Just a space issue I'm guessing? Or maybe weigth distribution?

Alan B - 26/2/04 at 09:30 PM

Yep...space.

Can't find anywhere for one decent sized tank....not without building into the frame..

Maybe some some redesign on the mk 2 may be needed....

Alan

The balance pipe between the two tanks will need to be set as low as possible to prevent the differing flow rates of the LP and HP returns from transfering fuel from one tank to the other and starving one of the LP pumps at low fuel level.
Alternativley, why not combine the LP and HP returns and then split them between the two tanks?

Thanks Guys, all good points to consider...

Mix - If I route the HP return into the swirl pot as Adrian suggests I could then split the overflow/common return to both tanks..that should work I guess.

Syd - Good points. Something I'll have to consider maybe. Yes, thanks. It is taking shape pretty well now..should be mould making again with in a week or two..
