Before I take the pipe off to refurb the carb, can anybody tell me where the hose goes to.

probly fuel return,there should be arrows on the housing to show direction of flow

It might be the feed at the bottom, look up the tubes, one will be almost blocked with a small bleed hole through, that is the return line. If you haven't plumbed in a return line then just block off that connection.
