Plumbing my Pinto expansion tank
James - 3/2/04 at 03:01 PM

I'm using Pinto, Micra Rad, 40's

I've read as many posts on this as I can- still a little unsure.

Pretty sure I'm right in thinking that the outlet of the expansion tank (bottom connector) should go to the 'little' pipe on the pump?

When it comes to the expansion tank inlet (top connector) I appear to have a choice: Micra rad cap (little pipe), thermostat bleed pipe or cylinder head outlet (via manifold).
Assuming I've got all these the right way round- which is the best of the three to use?

Thanks,
James

james

the small w/p and manifold should be connected together and the bottom feed of the tank tee'd in to this.

the top connection should go the the highest point of the plumbing runs.

Mine is as follows (as is most Tiger owners) bearing in mind that the Tiger supplied radiator has a large outlet at the top, a large one at the bottom and a medium one at the bottom:
Top of header tank (small) to small outlet on thermostat.
Bottom of header tank (medium) to bottom of radiator (medium).
Top of radiator (big) to thermostat.
Bottom of radiator (big) to water pump (big).
Water pump (medium) to inlet manifold (medium) (via heater if fitted).
I have a pic which I will try and find now and post.
Hope that confuses even more (he he),
Pat..

Hmmm, I'm a bit more confused now as you seem to disagree with each other!

I believe I've seen it done with the c/head outlet blanked off as well!

Maybe it doesn't matter and all combinations work!

Thanks for the advice,

James

Assuming I use the outlet from the c/head through the manifold I'll need the special screw in pipe that goes into the manifold.

The one on my 32/36 weber is a much bigger thread. Any idea from where I can get the 40's manifold type?

Thanks,

James

I got mine from Tiger, but I think they sell the same one in screwfix or machine mart (and it's a lot cheaper).
