Zetec Engine Height and Bonnet clearance
Sideshow_Bob - 11/1/09 at 12:30 PM

I was just wondering what height the cam pulleys (highest point) sit above the chassis rails for your zetec installations? ...and what the dimensions and make of your bonnet is? Just mounting my engine at the moment and could do with some guidance.

Any help would be appreciated

I cut the sump on my Blacktop level with the bottom of the bellhousing, raised the chassis on 30mm box section (I know slightly more than normal) and this is the result.

I'll pop out to the garage in a mo and take some measurements.

The indy top rails are 25mm higher than book locost, i am though sure the zetec will fit in a locost with a regular bonnet and no bulge if using TB's / carbs instead of the original injection system. Rescued attachment zetec clearance0939.JPG

Ok, Mine measure 200mm front edge and 240mm rear, but I copyed the Indy and added 25mm to the engine bay height from the scuttle forwards.

Hi

The silver top zetec using a 6" sump Ie level with the bell housing. measures 570mm to the top of the cam belt.

To get this inside the chassis with NO sump hanging down Ie level with the base of the chassis you would need a bonnet height of 240mm above the cam belt. Assuming you are using the std 13" / 330mm chassis height. This would mean that the extra sump over the common 6" that is used when doing a shortened sump would be hanging below the chassis.

If of any help i can put you in touch with the guy who dose the nose and scuttle that will clear the zetec with 6" sump level with the base of the chassis Think he dose the whole 6 pc body for £320.

Cheers Matt

Mine has about the same clearance as above and thats a silver top in a locost chassis with uego velocity body work which is about an inch taller than standard locost.
