Blacktop idler pulley

I have been looking at some posts and from what i can see no one has thought of using the original set up ie ali bracket with power steering pump attached. The only downside i can see with using this setup is weight. I bought the pump and bracket from the breakers for £10. Surely it has to better that all the mucking about with making the brackets etc.

Ok so i have just read Stevebubs post about running the power steering pump dry and its not recommended. I have found this idea.

Yep - that would work.

Westfield were talking about doing a kit to accomplish the same thing - perhaps worth calling them....

Alternator bracket is interesting - normally mounted under the inlet manifold....

In the picture they are using a cvh alternator bracket, unfortunetly the 4 bolts to mount the bracket are used by the engine mount.

Blacktop Zetecs come with a tensioner pulley that will bolt straight onto the front of the block in the right place to act as an idler pulley.

All you need then is a bit of flat bar bent to shape to give a bit of extra support as the block only has one bolt hole for the pulley to connect to.

Its not pretty but works fine and is dead easy to make.

Only downside is the ali cover needs to come off the front of the block.

Thats interesting Stu, I searched round the block for somewhere to mount the tensioner but couldn't figure it out. Have you got any more pictures of the right place with more detail please??
