Anybody good at geometry?
I need to make a flat pattern of the top of this-
Circular curves at either end, both ends vertical, any ideas?
Cheers
Chris
Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

what exactly do you mean by "I need to make a flat pattern of the top of this"?
Do you want the curved surface transposed onto a flat sheet?
There is info, on how to make a truncated cone from a sheet - you would need to ggogle for it as it is quite late and do not want to thin about
this.
you can then work out the section of the cone that you need.

well I need to cut it out of ali, so yes a pattern to place on the sheet to cut it out.
Sorry Chris you've lost me!

Simply daub it in slow drying ink and with a smooth rolling action, print your shape out on a suitably large peice of paper.

Thats actually brilliant. Simple logic.

It would be if it actually existed.
No pattern = no part = nothing to daub ink (or anything else) on to.
Other than that I can't fault it.
Thanks to all for the help

are you sorted yet?
see here for cone stuff <--- *
you would then need to adjust for the segment that you are interested in.
* note, there is a better description but I;ve yet to find it.

If there's no part, pattern or anything else then it's a bit too existentialist for me. You might as well guess with a crayon - you
can't get the dimensions wrong really.
This is a nice pattern though:
