Can anyone confirm this is only a grass snake?

i thought grass snakes were smaller than that, but i don't know

yep thats a grass snake, but i still wouldn't go poing it with a stick!

they grow up to 3ft in length

think it is a grass snake. it's not an adder. they are more patterned than that.

i think grass snakes can be upto 3ft or somthing

Looks like a grass snake from here too.

My fox terrier used to be good at finding them bless her. They give off a smell like garlic when they are harassed.

Adders have a diamond pattern down their back, IIRC.

Definately not an Adder (no diamonds on the back).
So apart from a Slowworm (sp?) which is silver that only leaves a Grass snake doesn't it?

Either that or it's escaped from the zoo!

Maybe it's the Ambridge Serpent!!!

Trivia time

A slow worm is not really a snake, it's a lizard still in the throes of evolution and can be recognised by the fact that it has eyelids. Here's a a picture showing a grass snake, just like yours

and here's an adder

Grass snakes can bite, but very rarely do and of course they aren't venomous.

Adder bites can be quite nasty, but are virtualy never fatal if treated.
