I think you have to host it on a website and then upload it, I got the kids to do mine.

Upload your avater in your photo archive
get it up on screen and right click
go to 'properties'and highlight the address of the image
copy the address (ctrl/C)
Go to Control panel (top right link) and click 'Edit Profile'
Paste to your avater pic link in your control panel where it says 'Avater URL:'

For those with small screens or low resolution screens... a good size for your own avatar is 200 wide. This enables you so have a side bar, the LB
avatar and still see the subject matter.
There ought to be something written in the script to automatically resize to 200 wide or smaller, but...

Still rather large - as Hellfire says, a good size is 200 pixels wide.
