Now that the summer is here...

Anyone know of any good beaches in East Anglia?

Me and some mates are heading out to find a beach, go swimming and generally have a laugh someday soon.
Being in Bedford any beach is some distance away, so don't want to spend all day finding a decent beach.

Guess we're looking for a large beach to play the manditary game of cricket and a safe place to swim..
So any recommendations?

Cheers,
Ed

Ummmmmmmmmmm

We always used to go to Hunstanton on holiday when i was a nipper. Up near king's lynn at the wash. Has everything you need including a couple of decent beaches, crazy golf and pitch 'n putt!!!! Think it's the closest decent beach to lovely bedford, which is probably why we used to go there.

Have fun!

If it's just a beach you want then Mablethorpe has the best.

Ummm...should know the answer to this really...

Sheringham, Hunstanton, Snettisham, Cromer all have large flat beaches when the tide is out. And no beach at all when the tide is in!

If you want a good road to drive and arent in a hurry, the coast road (A149) is good. Some good twisties, but lots of small villages.

We went to Snettisham last year, when the tide's out you could play golf in the Wash, never mind cricket. It's the only beach on the east coast that faces north and the tide goes out about 4 miles.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Holkham Beach, dead opposite the entrance to Holkham Hall. No karzy nearby (apart from dunes) but great expanse of flat sand, very nice

Yes.. Port Isaac in Cornwall the Municipal Car Park is in the harbour.

We have a static caravan at blakeney. Regularly see people parked in the carpark with water up to their wndows and have a chuckle. It does say on the entrance that the car park is tidal. Occasionally you will see a local in a landrover pulling cars up the carpark before they get submerged. Always give us some amusement anyway especially if its a merc or bmw

When we returned to the slightly submerged Vectra, we asked the carpark chap why there was no warnings. He said there was last week but the local yoofs pulled it down. Ho-hum......

Thanks guys for all the responses.
I've been so busy recently that I haven't had time to check up on the thread so it was really good to see all the recommendations (and warnings about flooding car parks!)

Well the winner looks to be Hunstanton - nearest to Bedford, everyone who I've spoken to likes it and no one here slated it so that's our destination tomorrow!

I'll let you how wet we get (either rain or sea )
Thanks again guys,
Ed

I must admit that after I suggested Hunstanton I wondered why the hell everyone else was going on about other places instead of just agreeing with me!! Must not have been there...

I'd love a photo of the crazy golf course please! Ah the memories...

If you want the best sandy beach go to mablethorpe or wells.

Excitement: Go to yarmouth.

Great all rounders: Cromer and hunstanton.(hunstanton has a great sweet shop next to the arcades!!)
