Photo Editing Software
Chaps,
I'm after some photo editing software.
Ideally it needs to be reasonably cheap (£60 - £80ish) and user friendly - ie I should be able to figure things out for myself, without having to use
a manual!
Thanks

For cheap and cheerful
try
http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/index.asp
These are early versions of their stuff to get you interested. I use later versions for everyday stuff and am happy with the results. If you get on
their mailing list they offer cheaper deals and upgrades.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Just done a quick check on web - before I spend any money, and so I don't get the wrong one - Paint Shop Pro 8 is made by Digital Workshop?
Thanks

Partially correct. JASC just got bought out by Corel (who earlier bought out WordPerfect), so technically, PSP is now a Corel product.
I've used PSP 7 since it came out and bought the PSP 8 upgrade when it was first available. I tried the newer one, but found it took longer to
load and didn't have any extra features I needed, so I went back to using PSP 7. They've now split the product into two PSP 9 versions -
a "friendly" version and a "pro" version, but I've tried neither (stay with the familiar, I say).
So, my recommendation would be to find a NOS copy or even a used copy of PSP 7. Great value that way!

I with simon, give the GIMP a try. You'll need to install the GTK widget set for windows but they provide it on the GIMP site.
Otherwise get Paint Shop Pro.

The Gimp is excellent, but is as complex as Photoshop - you can do a hell of a lot, but you have to put some time into learning.
It's a huge bit of software for an excellent price (free!).
