TV Aerial Signal Strength
Don't suppose anyone has a TV aerial signal detector I could borrow? I know you can buy them from Argos for a tenner but it just seems like a
waste of money, for something I'd probably never use again.
Do we have any TV aerial specialists on Locostbuilders?

The TV does have a built in signal strength/quality meter. Problem is, I can't see the TV whilst I'm up the ladders adjusting the
aerial.....

Spot on - my eight year old watched the satellite signal on the telly while I adjusted the dish. Perfect signal in 2 mins!

The house we have recently moved into has TV points in 5 rooms. We haven't needed to use any of the TV points up until recently, when I
purchased a couple of TVs for my daughters bedrooms. I installed the TVs, connected them to the aerial points and tuned them in. One TV detected and
stored over 100 channels, the other TV would only detect 50 (from the same aerial connection). The signal however, appears to be extremely poor and
most of the channels are unwatchable.
Just below the TV aerial on the side of the house, is a Visionlink 8 way distribution amplifier. 6 of the 8 ports are utilised. One of the ports
suggests there should be a 12V Input but I cannot see where, or how it gets power. There is also a telltale red light which doesn't work at
present. l'm wondering if the distribution amplifier is defunct.

First thing to do is to swap a working one with the rubbish one in the amp, then see which if any of the outputs are knackered.
see if you can find enough good working ports if not new amp time i would think, if the fault follows to the working port you likely have a cable
issue, so move the TV with bad signal to a working cable and try again.
that way you know if its the cable or TV

I think I've figured it out.......
The 8 way distribution amplifier should be powered. Unfortunately, there is currently no power supply unit and it looks like the previous owner has
been messing about with the input and outputs, hence the aerial cable going directly into the 12V input. After some searching, I have found a supplier
who will sell me the PSU separately. I should therefore be able to get power to the distribution amp and hopefully it will spring back to life and
boost the TV signal.
Worst case, I will have wasted £20 on the PSU.
