106 Rallye

Just bought me one of these. Very impressed with it, handles very well, amazing to drive a car with next to no body roll. Its only got a 1.3, but its 100 bhp and revs up to 7300 rpm. When you get above 5 grand it comes on cam and just takes off! Its brilliant.
The roundabout near where i work gets abit greasy when its wet and its a little too easy to get the back out! Been testing how easy it lift off oversteers with the torsion bar on the back. Good fun to understeer into a roundabout lift off a bit feel the back come out and catch it. Never got that in the fiesta!

Ooo, cool car
I've had a few friendly jostles in my Puma with a local guy with a really tidy blue Rallye.
Since you're quite local we could maybe pay a visit to a track day sometime and go in convoy
I've done one airfield handling day in my Puma and am now quite keen to get out on track and play with some liftoff oversteer

Remember VBH reviewing the car - she loved it.

Had a 205 GTI 1.9 for a while - just endless fun...... Followed one around Brands (had a big engine in) interesting to watch the inside back wheel lift up around 6 inches at Paddock

I've got an AX GTi as a "get to work banger" which has the same engine, only it's a bit lighter as well. Has the structural integrity of a wet paper bag, but is really rather fun to drive Best thing is even I can get over 40mpg from it, nearly double what my MR2 Turbo does.

I was just about to say that I thought the AX GTI had about 85bhp, but I suspect that's the GT I'm thinking about.
100bhp in 795kg (810kg for the 106) is sweet! Better than my puma in fact (which is just a smidge over a ton with 125bhp)
I saw a very very tidy AX GTI not so long ago in white with white Compomotive MO wheels and it looked really good, like a little rally car.

Nice car!

I used to have a Phase 1 XSi with the 1.4 engine. Fantastic!

Bilstein shocks all round, lowered 30mm, 15" alloys, Cobra buckets, 280mm big discs conversion, Saxo VTR rear subframe (to convert to discs), colour coded mirrors and spoiler (original one), full performance exhaust. Much more fun than my MGF to throw around the country lanes. Never ended up pointing the wrong way in that!

Yep, the GT had less power, but performance was very similar (I suspect due to the lighter alloy block instead of the iron one in the GTi).

Best thing about mine was I got it for nothing from a garage! The woman that owned it had pranged it (not for the first time apparently!) and decided it was not worth the cost of repairing so told the garage to scrap it. They had to pay the local breakers to take it away so said I was welcome to it. Spent about £200 on new wing, s/h bonnet, paint and bits of trim etc. and got it back on the road. The real downer is the insurance which is frankly ludicrous, just got renewal this morning at £330! Group 11 though.

Got a few pictures of the beast under repair.

Really pissed me off getting branded with the boy racer stamp - that's why I sold it.

Looked pretty normal from the outside and most of the mods were for performance not looks but still got every little twat in a Saxo VTR with 17" alloys and cut down springs trying to race me.

Steer Clear

You know it makes sense

Cheers

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!
