Japan pics (Part 1)

Some of you know that I recently got back from a couple of weeks in Japan. Fantastic country, very polite people, very safe (apart from earthquakes, tsunamis, radiation, etc...) and we had a really good time. Just thought I would share a few pics.

Here's a taster:

Very nice!, the only place I've ever wanted to travel to
How did you get on on the communication side of things? Seems to be the scariest part, not being able to say/read anything! (or do you speak japanese?).

My girlfriend spent a week there a couple of years ago, loved it so much she's learning Japanese for when she goes back again!

Cheers,
James

My son is learning Japanese at uni and was out there for 6 months (until last week... not sure if he will go back now). I have been studying Japanese at evening classes since September and it was useful. Unlike welderman, I found that many people, especially outside Tokyo, do NOT speak much English, and I'm not just talking about older people. They were generally quite surprised and pleased that an English person had learned some of their language.

However, for getting around, I think all the places we went had the station names, etc. in latin script as well as Japanese, so you could check if you were at the right place

My son is also learning Japanese language & culture at Uni, the plan is to be a teacher in Japan after gaining his degree.

He has been out there a few times on "placement" & says its an amazing country with stunning scenery & that the people are very respectful to all.

cheers

Went out there for business and a holiday last year, spent a week in Kyoto and absolutely loved it - was meant to be going back again this summer but cancelled for obvious reasons... hopefully back again next year.

I tried and tried to get the basic words in my head but most of them just wouldn't stick - just crap at languages....

Certainly the most visually stunning place I've ever been, the locals are lovely, and the food completely amazing and occasionally inedible!!
