TENT EXPERTS, title edit, which one dome tent or tunnel tent ?
Ive got the opportunity of buying a tent, its used but only once, but the thing is they never let it dry out before they put it away, question is,
will the mouldy/dicolouring affect the water proofing of the outside part ?.

Not sure I guess it will depend on how bad it is, can you take a look at it, you might find it's o.k but Unless it's free or you can look
at it I would look for a different one.

Unless it was a massively expensive tent before it went mouldy, I wouldn't pay anything as it's the sort out thing that gets given away or
binned

indeed....it can rot the fabric, make them smelly, and generally nasty.
How long has it been left damp?
BUT i would be inclined to get something else....
If you want a fair quality tent we have had decathlon ones, and just bought a 4 berth jobbie for a bargain £60...seems many tents are rather poor
these days so be careful what you do buy.

Don't know about that specific problem, but Outwell tents are very good quality compared with a lot of other brands.

Have a good prod with a finger etc, make sure there is no actual damage. Some of it will probably clean off, and you should be able to re-proof the
tent. Have a look at the outwell website it may have instructions.
Outwell are indeed quality tents.....

used to go camping a lot in my younger days and it was always putting the tent away damp that caused mildew, made the tent stink too !!. if it was me
id close all the zips and leave it in the sun for a few hours then go back and see if it smells ok, she who must be obeyed will not be happy if all
her gear smells of damp after one night !

I am not expert but wold have thought modern tenst being made form man-made fabric - nylons most likely, are not going to rot.
In olden times when tents were cotton fabric (natural fibre), then rotting would be an issue.
The discoloration will be just that. You should be more worried exposure to UV which over time will make the fabric brittle.
The pong should not linger. If that does concern you, erect the tent near some cowpats to diguise the smell.

easy enough to re-proof the tent
you can even buy the stuff in spray cans, but it might take a few for one that size

We just got one of these - think final bid was £190. 3 year guarantee, 3m water column etc. 6 1/2 foot high in the dome too.
All 3 rooms will take a double airbed although the middle one is slightly smaller. Dome is huuuuge though
Even for an Outwell he wants too much for it, especially if its a bit mildewy.

As said Outwell tents are pretty good quality, i'll second the milton wash down you might even get away without re proofing.
Hose test would be the easy answer on rain proof or not.

Watch out for the really big satellite tents as some sites will not allow them or charge extra as they take more than a standard pitch. Nylon will
stain but shouldn't leak, as above try a hosepipe on it. Canvas needs to be dried out as soon as possible.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Thats a good point. We had to double check that our pitch in france was big enough - luckily its 10 by 10, and the tent is 7 by 7m

It's mostly UK sites that are cracking down on mega tents.
Where about in France are you heading?
I'm off to Saumur again this year.

We've got an outwell tent very similar to that, ours is slightly older model. Have just come back from a week in france with it and it was
fantastic. As far as cleaning it, we've only done smaller ones. But we find either spraying or soaking the inners with bleach before washing
works well. As said, there are plenty of sprays to re waterproof.

Hi,
Fabsil available from Millets is a good "re-water proofer" if necessary.
