Speed controller - Locost magic required
Hi folks,
My mum has MS and uses a mobilty scooter to get round, she has two and her little one that goes in the car has gone on the blink.
I have tested the wiring and that all seems good - the battery is kicking out charge fine, so i think it is either the speed controller or the hand
controls.
there is an intermitent fault (though it is more often not working) that means the scooter seems not to have any power, so dash lights dont come on,
and it wont move - BUT the horn still works and all wires have continuity. Then sometimes it will all power up fine.
The controller looks a pretty standard bit of kit, forward and reverse, but these JOKERS want £200 for it!!

Now i am after a bit of locost magc to find a matching part for a lot less
Also advice on how to trouble shoot it further than I have would be great! Not sure how to test if it is the speed controller or a fault in the hand
controls.
Hoping you can help me stick it to the man, screwing over people who can least afford it pees me right off.

First thing I would try is take the board out of the casing and resolder all the joints.
Cheers

Wheelchairs and electronics on them is what I do for work (as well as special seating). There are several things you can try but to be honest I would
fault find and replace.
The control module you have there is a high current (40A as it has the tick in the box!) so the above pointer to check solder joints is not a bad
shout.
Check for clicking relays. with the high current these can stick with time.
The motors should have an electronic brake built in that is released from a 12V feed. Does this happen \ click?
Does that 24V relay click in the middle of your pic?
Check the turn key switch, they can stop working at the contacts.
Hope this is ok and helpful. I cant say much more without more info.
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

Excellent advice fellas, it was a relay in the hand control/dash, the solder had snapped but the wire was touching intermittently!
Thanks so much for your help, my mum is over the moon!
