i can sort of understand why MB CUSTOMS was banned, even if it is a bit harsh, it sets the standards doesnt it? if you let him off then the paid up
traders would have the right to be a bit annoyed
but i cant understand why WORX was banned, he wasnt personal or offensive he just put up a point of view with evidence to back it up surely that
doesnt derserve to be banned
it makes you think a bit more about what you write in your posts as to avoid going the same way.......

I'd too like to add my support for Worx to be reinstated.
I own a 6000+ user forum, and offer advertising to commerical bodies, which then pays my (large) hosting bill. Trade posts are allowed by consent of
the moderating team free of charge. We certainly don't see trade as freeloaders, rather an asset to the users that will provide a busier
forum....
Certainly steve is a valuable regular here, and I don't see what a ban will achieve in this instance?
All opinion of course!

I think he post something too much over the line?
Or U2U-ed something??
There was an advert in his undersign last post i've seen, was that the problem?
If Chris keeps this server on air by funding of the traders, i think it's fair to let them pay. A deal is a deal.
Hope they sort it out.

Ditto.
This used to be a good resource. IMHO, it's much less so now and the arrival of the Haynes Roadster book with its own forum will probably reduce
the influx of "new blood".
IMHO, The maintainers of this site need to buck their ideas up if they wish to keep it as a commercial venture and find a business model that works
without alienating the people they're trying to attract.
TBH, I'm finding myself spending less and less time here - if they're not careful, the roadster forums are going to ramp up and make
locostbuilders irrelevant.
A shame really. Wouldn't take that much to turn it around.

He's nearly e-wasting away!

I'm going to say this very quietly, but it seems a bit of an odd business model that ChrisW is following. The contributor thing / nag
screen seems odd to me. I paid up, but it must be over a year ago now. Does my contributor status last for ever? Do only new members contribute?
Presumably the level of income from that particular thing has dropped right down now.
Same with my MK owners club membership, I paid once, got a clear plastic card with a number stamped on it, but no expiry date. Am I am member for
ever?
Cheers
Mike
P.S. Bring back Worx.

I think the contributer thing is fair enough.
I dont know how much this site costs anyone to host, proberbly not a huge amount with the banner at the top right.
- However no one has to pay, and it doesnt really affect the functoinaly of the site if you dont. New members will join all the time.
- After 6months i paid up because i wanted to, and i thought it was proberbly fiar enough given it lasts forever.
The forum i co-run is totaly free to use, which in a way is how i feel it sort of should be on the internet.
- However we contantly get people offering to donate money, usally just after a glitch in the hosting, but for varous reasons its easier for the host
not to accept, and he's happy running it out of his pocket, as he set it up 5 years ago or so.
We have just started selling window stickers as well, also on-profit making, although not foc!

Even happy to let me crash his car for him...

To clear up a few things...
1. Three people were banned over the 'incident'. None of these were Malc (owner of the company in question) himself. Two of the three
were allowed back on very quickly - around 36 hours if I remember correctly
2. Steve (worX) took it upon himself to use alternative usernames (Ares, A Nonny Mouse, etc) to stir up a load of trouble, and continue to promote his
'crusade', assuming I wouldn't work out it was him. It took me around half a day to go through all the fingerprint records, work
out what he'd been up to, and clean up the mess. Most of these posts were removed during this time
3. Malc then decided he'd poke two fingers up with a post about how much more traffic he'd had on his website. Lets face it, an
improvement over nothing isn't difficult. He is permanently banned, and his final post removed. If I have any reason to suspect he is posting
under a different name, he will be dealt with in the same way as calvinx was a little while back by my solicitor
4. The contributor scheme may be an odd business model, but this isn't a business. The site is run by myself, with help from Fozzie, as a
hobby. Each month the hosting bill is paid from my own pocket., and contributions keep my Paypal account topped up so I can buy bits and bobs off
eBay for my cars. However, there is no need to contribute if you do not wish to do so.
5. worX will be allowed back as/when I see fit. I know he has another user name which he uses for u2u, and is using another user's account to
post. Whilst this is going on, he will stay banned.
So, as you see, all is not as clear cut as you may think....
Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris... could you do me a favour and finally give me 'Contributor' status - I appreciate its a minor thing, but that pop-up page is a
right PITA!!!
Sorry for doing this on a thread, but I made a contribution about a year ago and you've ignored all my follow up emails, so what can I do!?

I must be blind as I missed this debate. But I agree with the man above, keep him banned as he needs to finish my MK spec R first
But despite the various points Chris refers to nothing illegal or offensive has been posted. Forum sites only work with people like Steve so bring
him back so we can start discussing cars again

All i can say that i support decision to ban Malc - the 'victory' post was uncalled for. A bit like an athlete getting cleared of drugs
charges and snorting a line as he steps onto the podium to get his / her gold medal.
I think Steve just backed the wrong horse and kept digging. I hope he is reinstated soon. He was probs close to being reinstated before but was
perhaps a little too quick to use some alternative user names. As far as i understand it the ban is only for posting on threads and not for accessing
the site and communicating via U2U. More of a semi ban so we can all get some piece and quiet or a bit. Lets view it more as a holiday for the rest of
us

[Edited on 2/19/2008 by ChrisW]
ChrisW - I wasn't having a dig, just trying to straighten things out. I know Worx didn't intend anyone to get offended or upset. I think
it all got out of hand quickly and I know many members jumped in a little too soon without thinking.
I know that other parties who became involved in the arguement were not Steve himself but friends trying to help him out. These may not have helped
the situation but it wasn't their intention at the time.
I think your comment about Malc's business is a little unkind and a little blow the belt but I appreciate that's your opinion and
he's broken your rules.
I think all involved got a little childish but I know Steve has kept to his word since it all kicked off and I genuinely think the forum is missing
out by not having him here.
I've known Steve since Uni (some 12/14 years ago) and I know him very well. He's someone who's happy to help and I'm sure in
this case it's ended up tripping him up.
Thanks all
Michael
