I'm surprised how many times the A3 gets a mention on this thread.

I bought one last September and I'm well pleased with it.
(A3 2L TD Sport. 6 speed box)

My son and I have had a few V Dubs & Audi's over the years and the only one
I haven't been 100% happy with was my booted 1.6l Polo.
Everything on it was stamped Seat.
I found the build quality nowhere near their German counterparts.

Thanks again chaps - would have a Saab - too 'old man - golf club' for me, Seat and Fiat to 'Southern European' on the build quality. Scooby - too bling, and I'd end up wanting to 'tune her up'.

So the A3 Quattro has it (love an A4 RS but don't want a high miler), but I now have to convince my old man that he wants my Espace (we have to keep it in the family as we need it for our business).... a hard job as he drives a 5 Series....

Don't be tempted by the 2.0 petrol lump, they use 1 litre of oil every 1000 miles.

That applies them all thruought the VAG range

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Seat Leon Cupra TDI would be my choice.
Been very impressed with the 1.8T Cupra just could do with better mileage

Just looked at the reviews for the Cupra on What Car - and it comes out higher than the Golf - might be worth a look.

I have done 46k miles in mine in just over two years, no reliability problems (touch wood, especially with a 1400mile round trip to LeMans/Brittany this week) with them as long as you don't get silly with increasing the power.
