I owned a 74 Beetle in my teans and loved it. SWMBO has the romantic idea of us getting an old VW camper van and using my vast kit car building
skills to do it up
Are there any camper van forums similar to this one for info. I know good split screen buses go for mega money but hoped I could stumble on a decent
bay window one
Any experience or advise greatly recieved
Paul

Veedubs are cool so go for it mate
My advice.
RHD buses are EITHER fully restored, or rotten beyond economic repair!!
Go LHD from the states.

If you want proper cool old VW Bus then the splits or bays can't be beaten but the T3/T25 has a fair following, is better built, easier to get
hold of, cheaper & more practical.
I know a bloke who's just put a 2.5 Scooby Legacy motor in one, he gets better fuel economy, more power & more reliabilty. Or how about
getting a diesel & putting the 1.9TDI into it?
Or you could go more up to date still & get a T4 which is what I have.

Thanks for the replies. I think my wife remembers only the small number of happy times in my Beetle. She forgot that it was a complete rust box.....
oh and the time we went to Cornwall in it which took 2 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still aside from the rust, sh1t performance and awful ride its one of the best cars I owned
Early 70s a mate of mine had a Beetle and was"entertaining" shall we say , a young lady in the back seat. He thought she was getting a bit lively until he smelt smoke. The battery (under the back seat) had no cover and was shorting out on the seat frame . It was a while before they lived that one down
I've had a hankering for a bay window basically for as long as I could drive. My parents had one when I was a nipper, it was bloody fab
One of my engineers drag races the damn things. He's just spent nearly a grand on Porsche brakes for it, and is now saving up towards a very
expensive (~6k) engine I've tried to tell him that it'd be cheaper to buy a smacked up scooby as a donor, but apparently that's
'boring'...
and here he is...

I camp but we use a trailer tent. Last year we were next to a couple of Dubs and they had to do three shunts to turn round in a 3 acre field, they have the turning circle of a supertanker and both had to fill up with oil when they parked up.
