NEXT PROJECT - V8 IN A ??
Mark H - 11/12/03 at 01:11 PM

Ok, this discussion was started at the Yorks meeting last night. I would like your opinions...

If you were to do another project, bearing in mind most of us have got a locost already in some form, and wanted to use a nice V8 (primarily for the power and noise - mmmm), what would you do?

Rules: Got to be cheap (around a grand £ all in to get it on the road), road legal (can pass an MOT) and relatively simple (well, it does have to be for me!).

I'll start with a fibreglassed body/fat rollcaged SWB landy/Range rover hybrid pickup. Problem is, is it a bit too obvious?

Anything more sexy?

Cheers lads,

Mark

that would be the rotrax/dakkar

http://www.dakar.co.uk/

bit more than £1000 though

i did a midi metro once rover in back 6r4 kit came in under £1000 but i did have access to a fully equipped engineers workshop great fun especialy the boy racers face when you floored it next to them and it did rwd burnouts and left the nova standing.

This guy gets my vote!!! Could be possible on quite a small buget, however I've no idea what kind of gearbox he's using Rescued attachment rover6.jpg

i no this might sound a bit strange, but y dont u get an mpv and but something like a 500 brake v8 in it... the good thing is that on boy racer h8s to be over taken by a mpv, so if u compleaty trash em

i no it sounds a bit strange but the look on there face

iirc renault produced a publicity espace built on a williams renault chassis and f1 engine, that would achive the above.

true but how much would it cost to buy 1?????

Simon - 11/12/03 at 03:05 PM

As I'm gonna have a spare V8 (after I've rebuilt it!!), and good auto box (groan), I'd be toying with idea for the next project.

All front engine/rwd, VW Beetle/Mini, but they've all been done.

Rover have now launched the ZT260 V8, so I'm thinking about building a ZS200(ish) V8.

I think it's likely that once locost finished, that'll be it for a while

I would put it in a round tube buggy type frame well set back...lots of suspension travel...I think they call them "truggys"........

I'd quite like a mint early 70s Trans Am, the 455ci one from before they started killing the power. Apparently a 1980 mustang only had about 120bhp from 4.2 litres :/
