I am racing this Drakart this year in a nine race season.

Its not strictly locost buts it is bloody good fun. Its a familiar engine to a few on here!

Can someone help me with the pics please? They are in my archive!

Duncan_P - 19/2/08 at 05:14 PM

Looks great

I was going post your pics properly but they are huge and could do with shrinking down a bit.

To get the pics to show you need the img tags to include the full URL i.e. you need to add 'http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk' to the begining. But probably worth shrinking the pics first

donut - 19/2/08 at 05:14 PM

You need to resize the images as they are too big!

Looks like fun though!

i love it!! i want one!!!

zilspeed - 19/2/08 at 05:38 PM

ACB10s ?

Off road ?

WTF ?

carpmart - 19/2/08 at 05:48 PM

Chaps

Thanks for sorting the photos and the comments!

More details here http://www.drakart.co.uk/

The tracks we run on are a mix of tarmac and off road (shale/dirt) hence the tyres are everything from avon slicks to acb10's to the heavier avon treaded tyres. Avon is the control tyre brand but you can use all their styles/compounds.

They have to weigh less than 350kgs for the regs and they have no diff so the style is very 'arse out' Bloody good fun!

cool bit of kit

Just a shame it's a one make series.
If they let people make there own Iii bet there would be a few on here that would have a go. ( Me for one )

I know exactly where you are coming from! Bit the bullet on it a bit as my mate is racing in the 650 class with a two stroke rotax engine and I have been to a few meets, like the people in the paddock and got addicted to the sound of blade engines at full chat!

I am pretty certain I will enjoy it but would have loved to make my own to race - think I could have done a better job in some areas as well.

Back in the early 90's i sore one at an old airfield. Wow...... there was one with a 900cc engine in what a piece of kit...
Way to much power and very fast

Good luck with it all I bet you will have lot of fun with it.

Signed..... Green with envy

Went to watch these a year or so ago at anglesey, they were on with the supermoto's.
They were brilliant to watch so can only try to imagine how much fun you'll have in one.
Lucky Man.

They look fun!

Similar to an Autograss Class 8.

Here's some class 8's racing against dakarts at Blyton:
LINK

The class 8's are running anything from standard 600cc R6 engines all the way up to 1.4l Powertec Hayabusas

Can these get through a SVA? Think i have found my next project!!!!!

carpmart - 21/2/08 at 07:17 AM

I am pretty certain that no one has SVA'd a Drakart. Thats not to say that you couldn't, more that there is no reference to work to. Rage buggies have been SVA'd before.

This would make a great project though!

Hi Short Track - Would my Drakart be OK to race in Grasstrack races then? Is it a class 8 buggy? Whats involved in terms of licences or membership?

short track 123 - 21/2/08 at 03:47 PM

I think GregSL75 is probably a better man to answer your Q. but it look like it could be anther place to go and race your Drakart to me.

The licences seem to be under the banner of the clubs a bit like the NORA superlites

I would have to say probably not, obvious differences from the pictures are, you would need a strong steel mesh front screen and the bodywork must be steel or aluminium, your bodywork looks like GRP. Composites are not allowed unfortunately.

Have a look and see, you may be able to run a car that would fit both formulas, a rulebook is only £3 and you can get it from any club (just find your nearest on the National Autograss website)

Licences are £50 for the year and you can race anywhere in the country (and in Southern Ireland too), pretty much any weekend of the year. Usual fee to enter, sign on and race is £3, this money is used to cover the insurance, no profit is made by the clubs. Usually around £5 on the gate to get in and spectate.

More info on the NASA website, or my club's website: Solway Autograss Club

There's 10 classes, so you can race anything from a standard 998cc Mini up to a twin bike engined / supercharged chevy powered buggy, some of them running 5,6 700bhp+

NS Dev - 22/2/08 at 10:36 PM

cool to see some more grassers on here!!!

my old one is in my avatar, new one under construction (class 7, unlimited saloons, there's 10 classes to choose from in autograss)
