It begins!!!!!!!!
nitram38 - 21/5/07 at 07:59 AM

My steel arrived this morning for project X.
I am off to BOC in a minute to get my bottle of Argon for the new TIG.
It will be an "atomesque" MEV rocket type design with all round tube except for the seat mounts, all tig welded.
Watch this space for more progress!!!
Here are some "starting" photos:

I look forward to seeing it progress

What tube bender do you have then.

Will be interested in your project

nitram38 - 21/5/07 at 08:30 AM

You can just see the tube bender in the background of the first photo. It is a cheap £80 one from ebay, 16 tons.
It will only be used to produce slight curves. Any tight bends will be bought in, but I don't think that I will be needing any at this stage.

Where did you get those seats from?

Will look forward to seeing this progress.

Take a look on ebay under the kit car parts section. Can't remember the seller, not cheap but very good quality.

Bought on ebay from Italy about a year ago. Not used it yet. Can't remember the cost but I know it was cheaper than similar models in the UK. I bought one with a footswitch.

Model: Cemont TX 1602

I dont suppose you are considering documenting this in "book" form? i.e a Locost atomwith plans etc? I think there might be a lot of interest.

I don't want to go that route unless I can get some help!
I will photograph everything and I do have some drawings of some of the parts on solidworks.
It will definitely not be locost!
I have spent 11.5 K so far on parts and expect another 3 K to finish.
You can buy an old atom for 15K but not with an R1 engine capable of under 4 second 0-60 or air ride suspension so that it can run at 3" from the ground and up to 6" for pesky speed bumps!

Oh well, It will be insteresting either way to see the progress.

Progress today:
Fitted seat runners to seats and made first part of chassis, the seat subframe.
This will determine the position of the rear firewall, pedals and front subframe which supports the front wishbones.
