Landrover - rangerover wanted
locoboy - 17/5/07 at 09:39 AM

Hi,

Mate of mine is looking for a landrover /rangerover to do a bit of off roading.

Nothing special but would like a V8 manual.

Heve looked on Ebay and seena couple of interest.

I know there are a few offroaders on here, does anyone know of anything going?

Less than £500 would be nice!

HI

I have one i am going to be taking off the road shortly.

1985 3.5 V8 carb but with electronic ignition. 5 door. Manual.

Got guards for diff and sump/steering plus a set of off road wheels.

Has seen lots of mud and off roading and therefore looks a bit used shall we say. Had it as a second car for towing (personal use such as scouting) and off roading.

There was a early pic in my pictures, willl try and add some more up to date ones.

Not really sure what it is worth but has MOT till sept and tax for a few months but unsure exactly how long(can find out). It is nothing special to look at but does all the jobs it should do.

Let me know if you want any more details.

cheers
Stu

As Stu has indicated - some o fthe best off road toys i have seen rarely look respectable. It is the soundness of the chassis and the vehicles capability off road that is important. There seems to be a huge myriad of fancy bits on the market, again some of the best toys i have seen dont have these. They do however have what works and a good driver.

As with trackday cars - no point in having the latest fancy bits and fastets engines if driver skil cant handle it.

If i was after an offroad toy i wouldnt be bothered about the battle scars. Rough paint work can be sorted with minimum prep and a brush. Some useful rock sliders could be a bonus - all possible to make at home.

Nearly finished mine. Built on a range rover chassis shorted by 12" then bowler type frame outside. Just a 3.5v8 but would like a 4.2 or a 5.0 TVR if I had the dosh

Landy

Cheeky bugger thats one of the most expensive bits on it. Lumps are for the long travel shocks and carbs.

well it looks like i have bought this one on his behalf!

anyone got any usefull links to offroad forums?

I can feel a bobtailing session coming on! (after the copious amounds of welding!)

Would be nice t find a bobtailing guide somewhere on the net if anyone has any pointers then feel free to point away!

I can feel some V8 related questions coming on............

Sorry for the ignorance Stu, but you must admit it bears more than a passing resemblance to a Klingon's forehead.

A mate of mine has a bobtail rangey. It's mainly a case of chopping the rear cross member out, cutting back as close to the back axle/shock/suspension mountings as you want, and re-attach the cross member. Bodywork is up to you. Some just rivet chequer plate on, some use full shortened body work, as my mates does. Some just don't bother at all!
