She wants me to get a caravan
Are there any self help site on the internet, or caravan anonymous organisations I can join?
I feel truely ashamed - what can I do?
Tell her the 7 won't tow it
She has found this thing called "the little guy" (I cringe just typing the words), she recons the 7 will tow it, WHAT AM I TO DO?
How much does she know about cars? Would it be possible to say the 7 doesn't have any way of attaching a towbar?
Although saying that, my parents have a caravan and it's not too bad.......
Did i just say that?
Tell her that joining the "Weekend Gypo's" will totaly destroy her street cred, plus add her to the list of motorists most hated
things.

I had this a few years ago.
My saving grace was that once we started looking at them within our budget at the time and the people that were selling them, it was clear that we
have snob tendancies and would not like too be sleeping with bugs or mushrooms.
My protestations about the outrageous price of brand new ones put the saga to bed.
Managed to persuade that a motorhome would be far more flexible and allow the towing of a nice small car too

They're not really caravans at all are they.
Just sort of little trailers with an airbed.

Tents are better though, more of an adventure (i really shouldnt say that at 27, should i...)
Just bought a tent myself, should be fun for the kids at least
if not for me and the missus.

Back in the early 90's I had a caravan.
I used to tow it with a 2L dohc Sierra that on the motorway would do 34mpg.
With the van on, this dropped to 19mpg.
Add this to site charges, depreciation & running costs of the van, and it becomes cheaper to do B&B.
IMHO it also takes the fun out of driving.

Those teardrop vans are little better than a caravan. use to camp but the fun of getting dressed to go to the loo wears off. With a caravan they are quick to set up and warm and comfy, however they are not cheap to get a good one. I am now building a motorhome in an Iveco van so I can take my westfield where ever I want on the trailer and have all the facilities to hand. Nothing wrong with caravans at all imho but if you are getting one get a good one.

I was going to suggest trikerneil's site but he got in before me.
Maybe suggest you build one, out of aluminium obviously. That way it, ahem, could take some time to get on the road and would at worst be a good
excuse to get some decent tools (english wheel etc ) and play in the garage for months learning metal bashing skills.
For the cost of a decent (I used the word loosely) caravan two of you could B&B for a year solidly! Economically they make no sense at all.

At the risk of been slaughtered for my previous caravan rumblings.....
We are into our 3rd year now, only used at weekends, quick run too the coast Friday evening until Sunday, we go with friends who have kids same age,
park up, plug leccy in, kids out on bikes, bbq lit, feet up, forget about the world and relax....
Strangely enough it makes for a very relaxing weekend without a care in the world.

have agree with Jon it's a great getaway and quite theraputic in a no internet access sort of way.......

Have to say sailing is a bit like caravaning except we race to where we are going and we dont warm the planet up.

it's a really relaxing way of spending time away from home. And I'm hoping to find a truck to put the race car and take the caravan to some
of my weekend hillclimbs.

I've had one for the last couple of years - I can get my motorbike in the back and sleep upstairs, and we took it too Assen MotoGP last year and
it was ace!
135bhp and automatic for around £4000 and £200 to insure!
Mine is after me too. So far, I have convinced her that the hotel/B+B route is cheaper. I don't know how much longer I can keep it up though.
