New car! :-))

Just bought a new car, will pick it up on tuesday. It's a completely different beast than my seven; a NEKAF (Dutch army version of the second generation Jeep; officially the M38A1). Buildt in 1962 it has a 72bhp engine (exhaust valves on the side!), three forward gears (only second and third have synchomesh), a top speed of 92km/h. So 0-100 time will be a bit slower than my seven...:-)))) But is also has terrain capacities identical to the original landrover, and you can lower the front screen on the hood. My second car with my face in the wind...:-)))))))

Downside of getting involved with sevens is that 'normal' cars don't do it for me anymore. I cannot get enthusiastic about the latest audi/bmw/etc which is undoubtedy great to drive but at over 1500kg simply doesn't give me the drive I like.

Strange to see how this old jeep is giving me the same smile as the seven. Driving it makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop. Should I go for a Sherman-tank to complete the garage?

Fantastic - brings back many memories - my folks had one (1946 model) in the early sixties and I learnt to drive in it in the sand dunes where Khayelitsha is now whilst my folks where fishing - was around 13 at the time.

Only broke one spring

You'll have loads of fun.

Also - the first engine I worked on with my Dad - also a sidevalve.

Confused but excited. - 7/4/07 at 07:42 PM

very nice

There is a guy in Aberdeen that has an original radio jeep from WWII in light brown mat with the canvas hood in as new condition. It has to be one of the coolest 4x4's around, I'm so envious of it
