Smog, smog n more smog, I have not seen any blue sky yet, if you suffer from asthma then don't even consider coming here, its terrible.

I travellled to China the year before last. Its bloody filthy!!

I was quite surprised as all the cars, even the old models built under licence looked very clean from an exhaust point of view. I guess it was all from the factory chimneys and power stations. They burn coal like its going out of fashion. They do like their black cars (Audis and Volkswagens) over there dont they?

Beijing was bad, then we went up towards the Mongolian border, Chengde? which was realy bad.

Wow, brings back some memories. I was in Shanghai a few years ago with work. I bought a throw away camera and managed a couple of good pics.

That's looking across the Pudong river. It's an amazing view. The coal barges chugging past were so overloaded they were letting in water at a rate - apparently they do sink on a regular basis!

This was one of my favourite photos from China. Simply cos it wouldn't happen like this back home. Simple straightforward attitude to things over there. No 'elf and safety!!

Having spent a week in Beijing on business I really liked China.

We met up with two teachers on the first day in Tiannamon Square and they said they wanted to practice their english and so gave us a tour of the local sights. We asked them where the best place to eat was and had a cracking meal in a back street restaraunt.

I found the Chinease very friendly, professional and polite and really enjoyed my trip. The culture is truly amazing dating back hundreds and thousands of years. They make our ancestors look un cultured primates.

Whilst they rip off our designs and don't know the meaning of copyrights the quality of their work is high. We were involved in the building of a water treatment works and the project was well managed and as high a standard as projects in this country.

Not all good admittadly but if I reckon the USA should be counting the days of reign as the worlds no. 1 superpower.
