My new ride
donut - 31/1/07 at 03:43 PM

Well i have a new project in the garage. It was delivered today. It's a 1957 Ford 100e Anglia (popular was 1959 on) and it is totally mint. It has escort suspension, adjustable coil overs on the rear and a 105e uprated rear axle. I have sourced a sweet 1600 xflow engine but need a 4 speed type 3 box. Needs a few jobs to get roadworthy but all in all I'm really happy. Sat in it for the 1st time today too and the driving position is awesome! Really nice. You feel low down and the bonnet looks Uber cool.

As for the mini project...too much hassle/rust/bovver/can't be assed any more!! I must be getting old

how long before someone says ZXR 1400?

Coose - 31/1/07 at 04:14 PM

Ace! A friend of mine (who now has a 'Blade-engined S2 Lotus 7) had one when he passed his test about 20 years ago! It was electric blue with slotmags and a 1600 pinto. We scrubbed off a new set of Colway remoulds in the afternoon after he passed!

Oh yeah, it had a sun visor over the windscreen that was apparently unobtainable and was probably worth as much as the car!

sounds like this one:

Coose - 31/1/07 at 04:32 PM

Similar, but it was a two-door and a darker blue. It was a good ord bus though!

caber - 31/1/07 at 05:47 PM

I had a part share in one when I was 14 we drove it up and down a farm track until it expired! It had manifold vacuum operated windscreen wipers that changed speed depending how hard you had the accelerator down!

What a surprise, shall we take bet on how long this one lasts? Best count in weeks or days rather than months to give everyone a fair chance of guessing correctly

donut - 31/1/07 at 08:38 PM

you're such a meany Ned OK, I'll have a bet. Name your price and time limit!!!

gary gsx - 31/1/07 at 08:45 PM

Nice one Andy looks like a right gem

wilkingj - 31/1/07 at 08:53 PM

I had one... My first car and cost me £40.
Back in 1972.
Great Car, and reliable, was a 1956 model and 4 door.
Crap Vacuum powered wipers, especially going up a long hill in the rain

Oooh that looks nice. hmmmm how much?

bob - 1/2/07 at 07:20 PM

Well i had to pay more than the cover price on it 9s.6d. you remember old money 47.5p after 1971.

I paid a fiver for it at a wel known autojumble in the new forest a few years back so i would at least want my money back.

Would be a nice addition to the cars history even if you start swapping engines.

bob - 1/2/07 at 10:36 PM

I was 9 1/2 ish and my new dad had the very car

So is it worth a fiver

David Jenkins - 2/2/07 at 09:27 AM

My one vivid memory of these cars is of returning home from Cardiff on the A48, heading for Swansea. My mate from work was driving downhill, speedo off the clock, at night, 6 foot off the tail of the car in front!

Knowing that the brakes were marginal even when maintained properly (and this car wasn't) I made an excuse at the end of the weekend, and caught the train back...

Syd Bridge - 2/2/07 at 10:05 AM

I had one of those as my first and only car. (The other was a '59 F100, 332 Y block V8. For towing the ski boat and the sprint car.)

The Prefect ended up with a 1600GT crossflow, Escort rally front end bits, and Lotus Elan backend and gearbox. All out of necessity to tow the racing dinghy all over the country.

Went from Sydney to Hobart to Cairns to Geraldton in WA. That trip across the Nullarbor was a killer with 500miles of dirt.

Great solid little motor car.

You should be ashamed of yourself 'rodding' it. Restore it to what it was and let it live its life in peace.

Cheers,
Syd.
