Can I just say one thing?
RazMan - 3/1/07 at 04:43 PM

I have noticed a certain hostility between certain individuals on here lately (a minority I am pleased to say) and feel I must say something.

Let's remember why this forum was created - to be a helpful knowledgebase of information and an honest exchange of views. NOT a soapbox to jump up on and spout off obsenities and accusations

So to all the individuals concerned ........

Well said, that man!

Hellfire - 3/1/07 at 04:51 PM

Suprisingly it usually eminates from the same people/place(s). However, when we (read: you and me) post, we know certain individuals have more than their own share of "Personal Opinion" and unfortuntely decide to share this misconception "that anyone is bothered" to all and sundry. This forum is a help forum not a name 'em and shame 'em forum surely... though I must confess, it has gone down hill a lot this last 12-18months or so.

Fozzie - 3/1/07 at 05:15 PM

I have to agree

It seems as though no one can say or ask anything these days without being flamed or insulted because something may have been taken out of context.

So much 'anxt', such a shame..... it must put people off from offering more help and advice on here ... I know it does me

More and more everyday this site is going like TOL, which is very very sad. I know of alot people on here who don't post and share their valuable knowledge as much as they used to, because of the way the site is heading and the attitude of "some" people.

In the past there were a "few" heated discussions, but nothing like they are now, its like there is one everyday.

I don't know what the answer is, but if we don't sort it out soon, we will lose a lot of good people.

Couldnt agree more. However I feel it is unfortunatly a sign-o-the-times. Isnt there a song in there somewhere????

mookaloid - 3/1/07 at 05:30 PM

As Razman says - lets all just chill out

Totally agree! Well put...

People should feel free to post about technical advice without fear of retribution.

vinny1275 - 3/1/07 at 05:37 PM

Maybe there's something that can be done - other forums I use have "ignore" buttons against user's names. If you click it for a given user, the forum just won't show you their posts or replies.

Another option is having a moderated board. Chris sounds like he's overworked at the moment, but I'm sure there are others who would be willing to moderate. That way, if a post comes up which is a personal rant or whatever, the mods can delete the thread.

On a slightly different note, why not have a soapbox area, where people can rant all they want? Don't post soapbox posts to the front page, so you have to want to go and see people's opinions to get them. Cross-posting rants into the car areas gets your account suspended (naughty chair!) for a week.

I have to say it's not bothered me so far, but I've not been involved in these discussions - I had a look at a couple, ignored them, and read something more interesting.

It would be a shame if people did stop posting on here - I've had some great help on here already, and I've not chosen my kit yet!!

nick205 - 3/1/07 at 05:39 PM

well said that RazMan! (gorgeous car by the way)

I still find this forum useful, but must admit I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. Unfortunately I think it's a symptom of the size and success the forum has achieved and I suspect many other forums suffer the same issues.

As a 205 GTI enthusiast I used to read and contribute regularly to the Peugeot Sport Club forum. Over time it changed from friendly enthusiasts meeting place with loads of help available to a battle ground for a few individuals and comapnies who hogged the forum and IMHO destroyed it for the average user......sound familiar???

I don't see that there's much that can or should be done by moderators or the like. Personally I make a point of ignoring those members whose posts are ill mannered and over-bearing. Perhaps in time more memebers will take the same approach and the trouble'som element with get bored.....or am I being too optimistic.

At the end of the day it's like I say to people who moan about rubbish programs and repeats on TV - change the channel or turn it off!

Nick

That would be nice, and if you ever need a good laugh you can just 'search all posts' by certain members

I think we should have a W***er* section on this forum and throw them all in there as it's getting out of hand now!!!!!

You know who you are I'm sure

I find just ignoring the more angry threads easy enough, although it is getting harder to have a sensible thread without some form of war going off! A nice civil atmosphere would be appreciated by all I feel.

How about a W****r Of The Week poll?

Is anybody forwarding the recent vitriol drenched topics to Considerably? I bet he would love these. And I don't usually check the Website Problems & Suggestions page very often, but it's kicked off it there too.

macnab - 3/1/07 at 09:06 PM

Today’s been a funny old day…

I just remember the unbelievable r/c heli forum's, it really was as bad as it can get. All out war & just a total waste of time.

Remember we all have something in common here; we all like the same kind of cars and share the same hobby. Just be glad off that.

I would never dream of slagging off someone’s car or project no matter how much I didn’t like it because I relies just how important it is to them (the builder) and would only mention something if I felt it affected their safety or my own experience might benefit them or prevent them repeating a mistake it had made.

Personally if I had not found this forum and did not have access to the help I have now that car out in the garage would still be covered in junk as it’s sat for the last 3 years. So be patient and bite your tongue if I or someone else asks something dumb or have different idea’s from you ideal car. Only positive points please…

Oh well back out to the car to do some welding.

Humbug - 3/1/07 at 09:13 PM

How about not having a W**ker section and try to all behave in a more friendly way, tolerant of other people potentially having a different opinion from our own?

I have made good use of this forum since I joined (nearly 2 years ago!) - got some advice, given some back, read some amusing posts, bought and sold some bits and pieces, made some new mates. Overall it's a "good thing" - let's try and keep it that way.

Wadders - 3/1/07 at 10:16 PM

Nah, It would only increases the hype. Its a bit like having a big zit on your nose, best thing allround, is for everyone to IGNORE it, that way it'll go away quicker. Squeezing it will only make it worse.

I have been a member on here for a number of years and find this type of thing crops up occasionally, usually about this time of year when people are bored or just pissed of after christmas .Look back over previous years and there are a number of threads like the recent offending ones usually early each year.
I have looked at the threads but refrain from posting in them as it is what the originators want , if we all ignored them then there would be no argument.
I found this site invaluable when building my car and now try to be as helpfull as I can but feel no need to join in the pointless arguments.
Hopefully new members will not be put off and this site will continue to be the valuable resorce that it is.
Paul.

Agriv8 - 3/1/07 at 11:31 PM

is it safe to come out of the garage ?

without my bullet proof vest !!!!

Sad - Very sad. snoopy posted that hees off.

I dont pertend to be an expert on anything - the day job computers and systems i am not an expert but i know quite a bit but I still learn things everyday.

but the waring factions on here !!! why can't people agree to differ there is more than one way to skin a cat at the end of the day you have a skinned cat who cares how its been done. advice on different ways can be exchanged, all forums or peoples views shaould be taken as ' a way to skin the cat ' not a personal attack that some would go about it a different way hey it would be boring if we were all the same.

Gees it all about helping each other out Last weekend I gave up my spannering time to assist a freind getting a 1960's fordson major tractor up and running ( he's helped me in the past rebuilding my V8 engine ).

If someone thinks I have posted duff info on here by all means post it up I may have miss understood somting I aint going to take it personaly.

At times in history people were put to the gallows for saying the world was round not flat. we know now diferently.

Lets not spoil the resource that assists us all by acting like 4 year olds and if someone questions your reasons sit back and say 'well thats there opinion' and post back with your opinion on the subject lets not get personal.

life is too short to argue lets leave that to the politicians ( was going to put wimin - but did not want to upset fozzi - THIS IS A JOKE ).

Kind regards

Agriv8

muzchap - 3/1/07 at 11:33 PM

I posted this on the Snoopy leaving thread, I felt it relevant to add here too!

I used to believe in self-moderation - but feel the time has now come for moderators to step in. The self policing element only works if the majority are pulling together - at the moment, the majority are splitting away and not visiting at all.

FACT! - This site helped me build my car!

FACT! - This site WAS a great resource for checking out how to do things, best advice etc

FACT! - This site now degenerates into a farcical slanging match at every opportunity

FACT! - Nearly every manufacturer who is being argued over stays out of these petty arguments - WHY? Because they are petty! I don't believe for 1 minute that any kit is better than another - it's interpretation and EVERY single person has different circumstances:
a) money
b) time
c) location
d) experience
e) tools

etc - the list is endless. a car that suits one person might not suit another - hence people buying Cateringvans ready built or factory built kits.

AT THE END OF THE DAY ITS ABOUT ENJOYMENT!!! ITS ABOUT STICKING 2 BIG FINGERS UP TO BORING OLD TIN TOPS AND GETTING BACK TO FUN MOTORING!!!

I love the back to roots feel of looking down and seeing my tyres eating up the road (unless its raining and they are soaking me )

So PLEASE people - let's get back to enjoyment - it's all SHADES OF GREY - the only two things in this world that are BLACK and WHITE are!

1) You will be TAXED
2) You will die

That's it!

So let's get some fun in before the latter happens

macnab - 3/1/07 at 11:43 PM

'I love the back to roots feel of looking down and seeing my tyres eating up the road '

Has this never seemed just a tad dodgy? what happens when you go over gravel?

I was thinking of spats like an aeroplane would be better and more streamlined.

Nah, you need to be able to see the wheels going up and down! Just avoid puddles, road kill and cow pats.

macnab - 3/1/07 at 11:55 PM

no I mean something like this...

you could fit the headlights into its and see round corners! Rescued attachment spats.jpg

That would look a little strange, but could look quite cool. Quite futuristic and spacey.

yeah, I'll alter a photo and see...

Wellll, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that. If the rest was flowed a little to suit, it could look ok. Not a lot like a 7 though.

macnab - 4/1/07 at 01:05 AM

Its ok I can take it.

Scott it was a terrible idea.

muzchap - 4/1/07 at 01:19 AM

LOL - I'll stick to checking out my tyres

I agree though - roadkill/puddles/cow manure etc all make for problematic viewing

Luckily I don't have a windscreen so my visor affords me a view

Well at least this thread has cheered up!
