jamesbond007ltk - 13/12/06 at 07:20 PM

Having completed my lengthy build I am in need of some funds for buying xmas gifts. Do you think i'll get much business? Rescued attachment LocostTaxi.jpg

If you cruize the pubs/clubs at closing time I'm sure you'll find plenty takers

Cheers

Don't forget to 'cling film' the nearside rear wing. Makes it easy to clean off the pavement pizza.

Dunno but reckon if you can persuade those girls in the avatar to come along you'd have no bother raising some money! Oli. (organised KY wrestling perhaps?!)

I take it your interpretation of cruising is not the same as mine

Have you got any details of how you made the bonnet scoop?.
I would like to fit a zetec to my car but it wont fit under the existing bonnet and nose , maybe a bonnet like yours would do the job if i move the engine back an inch or so to get it behind the nose cone.

If its anything like Leeds the P*ssed up ba*tards jump up and kneel on the boot whilst hanging onto the rollbar when ya stop at the lights anyway!

Hi Paul,

The honest truth is that i put off making the scoop for years as i was dreading doing it and couldnt work out how to!

In the end, i did of course, do the deed;

Firstly I made the bonnet without the engine in the car, but with nosecone and scuttle fitted. (Big piece of card method).

(Guess you can use your existing bonnet)

Having cut the ali sheet out and found the centre of the front and back edges i then bent it over the car. Not very scientific, but it worked!

Then i fitted the engine in and identified areas that stuck up above the straight line between nosecone and scuttle. I then made cut-outs in the bonnet.

NOTE: under the scoop there is still alot of the original bonnet left for rigidity, just a couple of big holes for oil filler cap and the front of the rocker cover & timing cover.

To the actual scoop; If you are going to have an open front like mine it is important that the scoop doesnt slope upwards towards the front as this will lead to bonnet lift at high speeds. Mine is a few degrees below horizontal.

The best advice I can give you is to practice, practice, practice. With card that is. I made literally 100's of miniature models of my scoop over the years I was putting off doing it, from pieces of paper, card, fag packets etc.

I designed it as if the curves were to be folds for simplicity, the basic shape of the sheet of ali is as below.

The second part of the image shows how the tabs tuck under the sccop to allow it to be pop rivetted from under the bonnet so all rivets are hidden.

The tab at the scoop is tucked through a cut in the bonnet and bent back on itself becasue there is not sufficient depth to rivet it.

As far as the beding is concered, I got some pipe (think it was about 50mm dia), mounted in a workmate. Then cample the scoop at its front and rear edges and went bit by bit, keeping the rear position fixed and moving the front clamp position and bending the sheet very slightly as i went along. The hardest bit was to keep the centre section as flat as possible, whilst bending the corners.

Hope this helps. Bit of a rush type i am afraid. If you need more advice, let me know by U2U or email etc.

Just loked at my pic again and realised that one element is quite misleading. Once bent the sides of the scoop are in fact paralell. The triangualr parts give you the extra height at the front. The angle of these will depend on how much height you need to gain.

PS what engine do you have at the moment? Zetecs aren't all that high. Well, not compared to my Pintosaurus anyway!

Thanks for the bonnet scoop info and sketch, I may have a go at making one for my bonnet. I have a 1600 crossflow fitted at the moment which is a good 2 inches shorter than a zetec.
