Where to next?
Peteff - 21/10/06 at 09:03 AM

I used to work in foundries many years ago and one place I worked used to sell stainless all over the world. British Steel bought it and closed it down before they started closing everything else down and then selling off to the public sector. I've just read this and am dumbfounded. Can't anybody in industry or Government see past the end of their nose? How long before they close down plants as it's cheaper/more profitable to make in India and export it back to us, not that we'll need it as there'll be nobody who knows what to do with steel. Just make it into nails and hammers, that's all the technology we'll have left in a bit.

I worked at IMI's stainless plant at Somercotes, then I went to Triangle Valves foundry in Clay Cross, that shut down as well so I think it's not an industry to look for a future in .
I'll have a ride up on the bike this afternoon Jon

Hi Jon,
What type of brake pedal are you making? I'm making one out of 2" x 1" Ali box. Have you got any pics?

Shaft came out easy peasy Pete, bearing well rogered though, good job I looked, the outer race was broken in two, a couple of "balls missing" (no jokes plz) and had been very hot too..... prob Mr Alez that broke it as it had been like it some time by the looks of it.

Quick rub with a wire brush and it'll be alright. You'll be back on the road tomorrow then, instead of next spring.

The scary thing is it ran fine, only took back axle out too fettle it, could hear a slight clicking, very slight, investigated and found the bearing..........
