Phantom Vortex...anyone know anything?
spunky - 29/8/06 at 09:32 AM

Why have I never seen one of these at a show, on the road, anywhere.
Always thought it was a stunning looking car and would have loved to build/own one. But certainly not a budget blaster.

Looks like my 'retirement' may be coming to a premature end and I may have secured a Prod Managers job locally. So my redundancy package is getting hotter in my pocket

Anyone know of one, know anyone thats built/bought one, spoken to an owner? Rescued attachment 5285-phantom3_small.jpg

Looks like a pretty elise! Any idea how it compares to them?

RazMan - 29/8/06 at 09:49 AM

I saw two of these at Brands last year. The finish was pretty good although the interior looked rather tacky. Looks a lot more 'production' than many kit cars.

Just had a look at the site, and it's a heavy(ish) car at a tonne. Although it does have the honda 2.7 V6, so slap a supercharger on and your going quickly again.
And you have to have a minimum of 17" wheels apparently.

Seen them last 2 years at Stoneleigh I´ve been there. Looks very good but not much locost

Ive always liked this car apart from the rear.. Very pretty untill you see that they put almost no effort into designing the back of it.

Id much rather build a K1 Attack if i had the money.

Hmmm, not so sure about the K1, Its a very dramatic car but IMHO more 'hotwheels' than beauty.

Always thought the Vortex combined some very classic lines but a modern 'stance'

I actually think the back end is pretty good for a midi, not too fat or fussy.

always liked the look of the car, never been convinced about the choice of power train, a car of that level and cost should have more than 174bhp and 0-60 in 7 seconds, I'm sure it's not sluggish but just sounds a bit slow and lazy, I would imagine it to be more in the esprit, noble market and above/different to the elise/vxr220 but even they have more power than the phantom. most modern v6's are putting out at least 200-220bhp, ford/jag, alfa, gm etc etc. along with a shed load of torque.

Know what yoour saying there Ned. although I have owned a 2.7 sterling and the engine impressed me in such a big car.

I would imagine that future developments will see Phantom moving to Duratec V6's. a la Noble.

Still a nice looking car, which is why I'm surprised I've never seen one.

i have seen them (or maybe the same one) every year at stoneleigh, think one was for sale this/last year, the burgundy colour one. always look like nice examples, but a bit out of my price range..

I think its a lovely looking car. I have seen a K1 close up and even driven one just a short distance and i don't rate it that much.
It looks very pro but close up there are a few design flaws.
KitCarBuilds are building a Audi turbo powered one.
I think the Phantom has much cleaner lines but don't think that the Rover800 donor was a very inspired choice.

robinbastd - 29/8/06 at 09:24 PM

I saw a metallic burgundy Phantom the other day. It's a handsome looking car, but it looks like it "needs" to be driven by an older person that likes a spot of golf.
A sweeping statement, I know, but that's the impression I got.
John, save it for your retirement.

ROFLMAO

Maybe thats what I'm after Ian, I have a Blackbird and a 650R that tear around on and track.
A 'gentlemans sportscar' you could say that about the AM V8!!!!

I think they've already gone down this route and moved away from the rover 800 donor...
