Can you identify this micro car?

As the title, its got me stumped...



Aparantly its a two stroke engine. Its not a Ligier, the guy that took the picture thinks it begins with an M, and that all i know, any ideas? Links to other pictures would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Its either a Ligier or a Aixam, a french microcar, with a 1cylinder diesel that sounds like a jackhammer.

As smart51 said, looks like a "Microcar" thingy. Another similar make is "Aixam". They seem to originate from France, apparently designed to dodge vehicle tax rules.

Looks like it was drawn up by Roger Hargreaves (he of the Mr. Men books).

There are 2 grades of micro car - light quadricycle and heavy quadricycle. The light ones have a 5 BHP diesel engine and the heavy have a choice of 500cc petrol or diesel with 20 BHP. 20 BHP being enough for 70 MPH.

You push the body up and down to charge an inertia flywheel - it then goes about 3 metres before stopping. Cheers, Pewe

BUT - read the comment about it avoiding tax rules etc.

It's not been designed for aesthetic prowess! It's been designed for a single purpose - getting a better deal from the government.

I think it looks no worse than the SMART variety of car - and if the owners quids in due to lower tax bills - fair play to em

They are known as "sans permis" in France - meaning that no licence is required. These microcars provide a useful way of avoiding lots of driving laws (speeding is practically impossible though, even in 30kmh areas!). Apparently one of the main uses for them is if you have lost your licence due to drink driving you can drive these as you don't need a licence... Also, if you are on your way back from a bar you don't risk losing your licence because you don't need one to drive the thing. Aren't the French rules great!!

Don't thiink I have ever wanted a drink enough to make me drive one of them though!!

It is a Jdm

In our country you drive it as a moped.
16 years and no drivers-license (max 45 m/h and max 4 kW)

If higher speed our power you need a licensefor a "normal" car.

It's got me thinking though...with a BEC conversion it could be very interesting. Even with a relatively small/cheap engine like a 600 or 750 it would be a pretty quick machine.

Of course I suspect that the handling and braking could do with some upgrading...

Microcar claim that their MC1 weighs 350kg, of which 55kg is engine. Take out the gearbox as well and fit a big bike engine and you'd keep the same weight. 3.5s to 60 with an R1 engine. 150BHP is a bit more than the 15 BHP from their larger engine so the chassis may not be up to it but it would be quick while it lasted.

If it's the same as an Aixam, it will have a twin cylinder Kubota diesel bolted to the underside of the dashboard.

My mate has just collected all the bits to put a GSXR600 engine in his Aixam. Drives it on a bike licence anyway, so why not have a bike engine

At the mo it has a nasty little Kubota dumper truck engine with a CVT, BUT it does 100mpg!

Microcar MC1 has a conventional front mounted engine. The QT Fun is mid engined. Both have Lombardini engines.

They are FWD. If you look underneath such a car you sure don't want to get one and fire it up with a bigger and faster engine. Unless you are a ....
