charity car - suggestions wanted

OK

I am thinking of entering a chrity treasure hunt in september. the run is from london to the south of france. the main proviso is that cars must cost under £250 and must be scrapped when you reach the destination......

I'm thinking a team of 4 in a diesel estate of some kind? perhaps japanese for reliability ?

any opinions or thoughts

You could always claim it cost £250 and show them the book to prove it

i can see alot of locost'ers waiting at the scrap yard for the £250 ron to come in

i sometimes go to kings lynn car auctions on a friday and theres offen old cavaliers going though t&t for £100 or less

if its Staples to Naples, a few of my mates are doing it in a old audi 80

My mate got a Mondeo Turbo Diesel estate for £250.00

Bodywork is tatty, and its done 260,000 miles!! BUT! so far its towed 10 tractors back from varying places around the country (mate collects and recons tractors)

Took my kitcar to MAC#1 and back with a trailer - starts first time every time and has been no hassle whatsoever!

I'd recommend a cheap ford turbo diesel - old Henry knows how to build em

This is it here:

On a serious note, some young guys did a cross country rally in an old sierra a little while ago. It survived the rally and then they sold it on to someone at the end to use as a taxi!

Think the link was posted on here not so long ago...

is it like the staples to naples rally? that looked a right laugh.

i would go for something really basic, on points and carbs, with a manual gearbox, that you can get spares for in france. an ax should be about right!

If you're going to be driving through france, then for my money you want a cheap Pug diesel for the job - should be able to pick up a 405 diesel estate for £250 and nurse it down there.

They drove it to Russia if it's the one I read, then sold it to a local. Citroen, Peugeot, Renault or Fiat should be easy for the spares and to get rid of over there. Puntos and Unos will be cheap enough to be disposable.

2 years ago, I took mt £250 Citroen Diesel to south of France. Never missed a beat - AND - drove it back again. Still got it, now done 228000 miles!

Has to be a 2CV really......

marcyboy - 11/5/06 at 12:01 PM

any citroen, peugot or renault...they must have the biggest amount of spares lying around for those makes...but your own chances of breakdown are high too...lol

There must only be one car that you'll get for less that £250, will get all the looks and you can destroy it yourself, totally, at the end of the journey with no more that a sledge hammer............
