hey everyone, hope you all had a good weekend?

well ive been very productive this weekend, ive cut the s%"t out of my donor and the scrap man is coming to get the remains tomorrow( R.I.P to the donor). ive cleaned the garage out ready for the concrete to go down (all i need now is to borrow a concrete mixer, if i can borrow yours for a couple of days u2u me, pleeeeeease) and then i started to clean up my diff casing. im not going to have the diff reconditioned as there is no need( opened it up and it was mechanically sound).

ive been using my angle grinder to clean the larger surfaces with a big wire twirly attachment thing, but it is too big to get into all those little nooks and crannies, ive tries a wire brush and wire wool but nothing seems to do the job at getting all the ground on dirt and stuff off,

has anyone got any suggestions on how i can get these areas clean? i plan on painting it in silver hammerlite so the surfaces must be paintable?

Soak it in Mr Muscle oven cleaner and jet wash it off, anything else after that can be painted over with hammerite

if i soak it in mr muscle and then power wash it wont the water go inside the diff?

Only if you leave the cover off.......

edited to say I assume youre using a Tripode diff, just stick something in the holes to stop ingress. An old towel or something should do it, just dont squirt water directly into it.

I made some rubber bungs for the holes, then chucked it in the beadblaster!

i left mine dirty and unpainted...

If i cleaned it, it would just annoy me when it got dirty (first long drive).

got another one for you then? how do i get rid of the rust on the lobro joints that go into the side of the diff without opening the diff up? angle grinder wont reach, same applies for the prop attachment,

So it is a Lobro then, you wont get water into it with the back cover on.

I didnt worry about them. Unless theyre horrendous, you wont see them on the car.

Hi,
A word of advice from a man who mixed 11 Tons of concrete by hand for his garage floor and then realised that you can get it just a cheaply from people like Master Concrete without the hassle of mixing it yourself. I had got quotes from the likes of readymix but my garage was behind my house and my driveway wasn't strong or wide enough to reverse the truck to within pouring distance and the cost of a concrete pump was way too high. I therefore ordered up the raw materials and my wife and I mixed it by hand to cover an area of 30 foot by 10 foot at 6" depth. Of course the 6" depth was in places more like 9" so my original 8 ton estimate went way over to around 11 ton. I had to do it in three sections due to time constraints and weather problems so I had some joins too.

Anyway, get a quote to have your concrete delivered and with Master Concrete you only pay for what you use and they will even barrow it into position for you if like me your garage cannot be reached from the roadside directly.

Dont worry mate, Hammerite covers a world of problems. Just give it a decent clean and use hammered finish on it, looks fine. Be careful about getting paint on the drive flanges, keep them as Ford intended.

Chances are the majority of the diff will be behind a cover or out of sight so dont worry.

One of those red handled wire brushes with a curved end dipped in white spirit got the rest of the crud out of the corners - enought to paint it anyhow.

Too much hassle with all this water and cleaning products!

1/2 hour max with the brush and it should be good enough to paint.
